The use of oil immersion microscopes will help our science students get a more detailed look at the bacterial world in and around us. Funding this project will help us upgrade our 1980's microscopes to ones that show tremendous detail.
Oil immersion is a technique used to increase the resolving power of a microscope. This is achieved by immersing both the objective lens and the specimen in a transparent oil of high refractive index, thereby increasing the numerical aperture of the objective lens.
Our students will be more engaged and passionate about the subject matter when viewed in this manner.
