Books, Books, BOOKS!
Funded Sep 30, 2017Our reading program, Lucy Calkins's Reader's Workshop, involves finding each child's "Just Right" reading level, and creating reading clubs of 2 or 3 students on or around the same level. The teacher presents brief, targeted lessons, (on Setting, Character, Predicting, Visioning, for example) then sends students off to read with specific goals related to the lesson. They read, jot their thoughts on sticky notes, and discuss with their group members.
This is my second year teaching 3rd grade, after many years of grades 4-6. I have been collecting books for younger readers, but the pickings were still on the slim side. In my experience, one of the most critical requirements for the students to grow in, and love, reading is a robust selection of books.
I have a number of students who are developing readers, and desperately needed LOTS of materials they could access. They need to read, read, READ to build their muscles. Thanks to you, they have so much, and I have already seen their growth. You have contributed greatly to their skills and self-esteem! I cannot begin to share how much this means.”

Cubby My Laptop!
Funded Mar 13, 2012Words cannot express the dramatic change your generous donations have made to our class. A lively, though cramped space has opened up to become a lively comfortable space. Somehow, the freed Library shelves have already filled out with new books, to the immense joy of my students!
Having a "Home" for each computer makes a tremendous difference. No one needs to disrupt anyone else's laptop in the quest for their own. In addition, all the power strips are now connected to the computer power strip, where they belong.
Getting out, and putting away laptops has become a much easier, and less time-consuming endeavor thanks to your generosity! Again, thank you SO much!”

Collecting Evidence for Digital Portfolios
Funded Feb 1, 2012This is a small expression of my great appreciation for your generous gift to my classroom. We use our Office Jet daily, to print, copy, and scan documents, images and student created artwork. As a result of your donation, we were able to create a new Bulletin Board boasting color prints of amazing Art, by both well known, and budding, artists. We use the Office Jet so much, in fact, that I cannot remember what life was like B.O. (Before Office Jet)! It has made so much possible, and opened doors for the entire class.
Our District has suffered severe budget cuts, so without your help, the students would not have had this wonderful opportunity. The Office Jet enriches, on a daily basis, how we are able to implement our existing technology.
Your kindness has allowed us to step closer to our collective potential.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Matz
