  • Glowing for Genetics

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thanks again for providing the resources for my classroom. The fish tank with Glofish is a wonderful addition.

Throughout the year, the tank has enriched the atmosphere of the classroom. The glow of the fish in the black-light is striking and many other staff and students have come in to observe the tank. The gentle flow of the filter adds a nice ambient noise to the background. In addition, the students enjoy caring for the fish.

We are just entering the genetics unit where we will learn about the DNA technologies that led to the creation of the Glofish. We will also discuss the hereditary patterns in this type of fish. I look forward to helping the students learn more about the genetics involved.

Thanks again for all of your assistance with this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maas-Anger

  • Cooperation Without Computers

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

I am expressing my heartfelt thank you to all of the donors that contributed to funding this project. Many students that I teach are experiencing a "burn-out" from using too much technology while learning. These products will encourage collaborative learning activities without using technology. I am very excited for the students to put the items to use.”

    With gratitude,

  • Stand Up for Active Learning

    Funded Jun 26, 2019

Thanks so much for contributing to my "Stand Up for Active Learning" project. The desk is a wonderful addition to my classroom. Students have been using it several times each day and find it a welcome change from sitting at the regular desks during class.

The adjustable height is great because the desk can be lowered or raised to the individual student's desires. Because it is so easily adjusted, different students can use it during just one class. I am very pleased to hear a student request to use the standing desk during class.

I, myself, have also used the desk when students are not using it. It's very handy for computer work while monitoring student work.

Thanks again for your contributions for the students, they, and I deeply appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maas-Anger

  • Citizen Scientists: A Case For Bioethics

    Funded Jul 24, 2012

I would like to again offer my thanks for your generous donation of a class set of the "Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." This book has become a cross-curricular project that I have undertaken with an English teacher. It has also spurred the interest of other staff members in reading the book.

The students were very excited to begin reading the book. It has led to good discussions, not only on the biological concepts, but also on the ethical topics that are raised in the book. I am excited to see the development of the thought processes that the students use when taking part in the discussions.

This book is a great connection between the cell division and genetics units in the curriculum. After reading and discussing the book, they will be able to approach the bioethical issues in the genetics unit with much more confidence.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maas-Anger

  • Moving Beyond the Filmstrip

    Funded Mar 23, 2010

Thanks again for your generous donations. The Bill Nye DVDs are an excellent addition to our resource library! Mr. Nye is able to make difficult concepts easier to understand in a very engaging manner.

The package arrived at the right time to show the freshman students the earth science video with information about earthquakes. Since many of the students learn visually, they seemed to understand the basic concepts behind earthquakes. I was then able to take this basic information and increase the depth of knowledge. The program allowed for an enjoyable learning experience.

As with many schools, my school does not have money in the budget to update our resource library. Generous donors like yourselves enable schools like mine to purchase supplies and resources that they would not otherwise be able to afford.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maas-Anger
