  • Portable Chart Stand

    Funded Aug 18, 2021

    During the month of November, we are focusing on the character trait of Thankfulness. I am so thankful that you chose to donate to our class project. One of the main goals of first grade is to become a fluent reader. Each week we focus on a specific spelling pattern and practice reading words and stories that contain that spelling pattern. I use the chart stand as the students generate lists of words that fit the given spelling pattern. They love to see "their word" appear on the reading chart. Now they have buy-in for the entire week.

    The chart stand is super easy to push around the room. I can use it to teach the whole class during carpet time or wheel it to a corner to teach a small group.

  • STEM Kits For the Kids

    The students are thrilled with their new STEM boxes. As you can see they are building fun and innovative creations from their boxes. The students are so motivated to get their reading and math assignments done. Then they can use their STEM boxes as a reward.

    Another benefit has been the cooperative language that is generated as the students are building. They are discussing their creation and explaining the building process to their peers. I love that the possibilities are endless.

I teach a talented group of 33 second graders. They love to explore and learn new things every day. The other day a student brought in his iPad for show and tell. The students were fascinated and engaged. They were amazed with all of the educational opportunities available to them. It is my dream to have a minimum of 10 iPads in my classroom so all of the children can learn and investigate on a daily basis. I love the 'aha' moments created through a child acquiring new knowledge.

About my class
