  • We Work Hard for Gummy Bears!

    Funded Jul 17, 2024

My students have been working so hard this quarter! We have cleared areas for raised beds, filled and planted those beds, and are in the process of clearing out our unused greenhouse to add even more raised beds to plant even more food for everyone! We work hard everyday to get our garden expanded so we can grow lots and lots of things for us to eat and share. We ate gummy bears one Fun Food Friday and the kids enjoyed it a lot. I guess they enjoy sugar in any form as a pick-me-up. Thank you again for all the support of our classroom in all that we do!”

    With gratitude,

  • Always Look for the Good in Everything

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation! We have been using the items in our counseling work to build relationships and increase SEL skills. Students have appreciated the positive and fun interactions they've had while using the fidget toys and colorful pens. The items have also increased engagement and communication within our spaces. Sometimes students come in and just need a little pick-me-up because they are having a crappy day, and these little coloring books and fidgets are perfect. Having these items for our students that need it can be a lifesaver. Mahalo again for the support!”

  • Flowers for Everyone!

    Funded Sep 8, 2024

We are adding more and more beds in every empty space of ground we possibly have and soon it's going to look even better than it already does! The beginning of the school year is always dedicated to clearing the overgrown weeds and getting the beds ready for planting. This year, however, it took half the time it usually does to clean everything up, and I believe it is because of the raised beds. We are so very thankful for donors like you that enable us to be able to grow food for ourselves and our families and friends. Being able to give food away is a powerful ability, and by giving my students these opportunities, I hope to make them more appreciative and thankful for what they have. Mahalo again for your generosity!”

  • Sunflowers Make Everyone Happy!

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

Flowers and vegetables are what keep us happy in class and hopefully soon we will be able to share that with others at school and in the community. Sunflowers are so eye-catching when they are growing and cut and put into vases to brighten up a room. You can't help but smile when someone gives you a bouquet of flowers or some leafy greens and herbs for your meal. Our class is learning to grow, harvest and eat lots of different plants in the garden, and if we are successful in growing an abundance, we will be able to share with others. Many of my students are proud to show their families the things we grow in school. Thank you for helping us to get the supplies that allow us to do all the awesome things in class! We appreciate your support!”

  • The Little Things We Need

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

We always need so many random things in our classroom and on the farm and in the garden. But without generous donors like you, we wouldn't be able to get the random things we need to make our class run a little smoother. We love to do awesome things in class, like make dill pickles, paint signs for the garden, and plant all kinds of flowers, herbs and vegetables in our raised gardens. We learn how to properly care for our plants and animals and we learn how to provide for ourselves and our families. In case we need to learn how to feed ourselves off the land we live on, our students will be one step ahead because of the lessons they learn in Agriculture class. And we love it! Mahalo again for the support!”

  • Litter is Everyone's Kuleana

    Funded Apr 20, 2024

Whenever you are taking a stroll in a parking lot, in a park or, or even at school, do you notice trash on the ground that you wish wasn't there? We all do! The trash pickers we got in this project is allowing us to go everywhere and pick up trash! It gives my students a sense of pride in their school and a responsibility to keep our Earth clean. It may just be a very small thing we can do to help, but if everyone did their small part it would make a big difference! There is going to be a big community clean-up event soon and some of my students are talking about taking our trash picker tools and trash bags and going to help. Being able to be a part of our community like that helps to teach my students how to be better stewards of our land. I'm proud that they are thinking in those directions!”

  • Welcome to a New School Year!

    Funded Aug 8, 2024

This will be our third week of school and it is off to a great start! The students have been doing their assignments on Google Classroom and they are outside in the garden getting all the beds ready for planting. We will have to do more housekeeping on the greenhouse so that we can plant our seeds, but once we get that going it should be like a well oiled machine. We harvested 15 pumpkins that grew over the summer and we will be planting new vines soon of squash and maybe even watermelon. Hawaii has such a year-round growing season that you could plant anything at any time of the year and it should grow.

Thank you so very much for the support you have given our classroom and we hope you continue to follow along on our journey to see what we come up with next! Mahalo again!”

  • Garden Journals for Kilo

    Funded May 7, 2024

Our school year is underway and the students have been getting their hands dirty and cleaning the beds to get them ready for planting. We have been working hard to get ready for new herbs, vegetables and flowers, and it's been pretty easy to get the beds cleaned out of weeds and filled with potting mix and mulch. My students may not know very much about agriculture yet, but as we go through the year, they will learn all kinds of great things that they will be able to take home and teach their families so that we are not so dependent on the rest of the world for our food. They are excited to be a part of Fun Food Fridays soon and be able to eat things we grow in the garden. Mahalo again for all the support!”

  • Label Me Up

    Funded Jun 30, 2024

We use labels for all kinds of stuff around the classroom, and having these supplies at our fingertips makes organizing so much easier. We also use it when we dry fish for our community and to eat in class. We have so much fun labeling things, and cannot wait until our freeze dryer is done and we can label those items we make to try. Thank you for supporting all the things we do in class, even though it's not like other classes that's for sure! We appreciate your generosity and we can't wait to see what this year brings for all my classes! Mahalo again!”

  • Freeze Dried Yummies

    Funded Jul 17, 2024

Our freeze dryer has arrived and we are just about ready to get it filled with Skittles! We will have to research and see how long it takes various things to freeze dry so that we can plan accordingly. We will definitely do Skittles and Nerd Clusters because everyone loves those when they are freeze dried. We will also do bananas and mangoes when we can get our hands on them. Anything and everything we can possibly stick in there is free game! Thanks so much for helping us to get these supplies to use with our freeze dryer! We appreciate your support!”

Agriculture has been a part of my life for many years. I am the fifth generation to live and farm on our coffee and macadamia nut homestead. My lifelong dream to be the Agriculture teacher at the high school I attended has finally come true. I have made it through my first year and I think it was a raging success. There are so many ideas bouncing around in my head and I hope I will be able to bring them to fruition.
