  • Supplies for the Outdoor Classroom Garden

    Funded Jan 12, 2025

We always need so much coco coir and fertilizer for the garden because it settles a little bit each day and eventually the soil levels drop quite a bit. It also doesn't help when the wild chickens and feral pigs scratch and dig the soil out and we need to add more. The coco coir in this project will be mixed with regular garden soil, potting mix and some fertilizer and added to each bed so that we can plant all the beautiful herbs, flowers and vegetables that we can eat and share with others. Mahalo for your generous support in helping us to get these supplies that we need for our raised bed garden!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tina Alcain

  • A New Pollinator Garden

    Funded Apr 11, 2025

Having a pollinator garden was one of the main focus points when we started our raised bed garden. Over time, after adding milkweed, butterfly bush and flowers of all kinds, our pollinator garden has become a beautiful addition to our campus. With your generous donations, we are now going to be able to do the same around campus in different areas. We have so many milkweed seedlings that we can plant in planter boxes around campus so that the butterflies have more areas to raise their caterpillars. Sharing the beauty we have in our classroom garden with other students and faculty that may not get to pass our garden is going to have everyone happy and thankful for the beauty we have in our lives. Mahalo again for supporting our classroom project and we hope to be able to do this for a long time coming!”

  • Rainy Day Art Projects

    Funded Jan 13, 2025

We have been fortunate to partner with another Ag class at the other high school in town to get some garden signs made so we can put them in the garden. They built the signs using pallet wood and painted them with paint we shared with them. They came back to us as plain white signs and we decorated them to label the different things we have growing in the garden. So far we have made signs that say EGGPLANT, BASIL, MINT, TOMATO and SWEET POTATOES. We are happy to partner with other students to help beautify our garden. Thank you for your generous donation in getting the supplies we need to paint these signs and get them out into the garden so everyone knows what we have planted. We appreciate your generosity and hope you continue to follow along in our growing journey!”

  • More Hydroponic Supplies

    Funded Aug 21, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! Our raised bed garden is growing and producing lots of things to eat. We are still learning how to time our planting with the moon and learning how to get the biggest and best harvest from our raised beds. We're still practicing but so far we've eaten some yummy things from the garden. None of that would be possible without your generous support and your dedication to learning outside the box for our keiki! We hope to be able to take what we learn into the middle school and elementary school next year. Mahalo again for your support!”

  • Harvest Time

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Mahalo Nui Loa for your generous donation to our classroom so we may have the supplies and equipment we need to do awesome things in the raised bed garden and on the farm. We are growing lots of herbs and vegetables that we have eaten in a chicken soup, hamburger stew, and sweet potato pie. The students and adults alike all love what we are able to harvest. We haven't had the best luck with our corn and eggplants but we keep trying. Our tomatoes were doing so well until the mites got them. We have to do some pest control. Thank you again for your support!”

  • Coco Coir for the Garden

    Funded Mar 11, 2025

Mahalo Nui loa for the generous support of our classroom to get taller storage shelves and a bunch of coco coir for the garden beds! Your continued support will enable us to keep our garden beds filled and planted with so many delicious things to eat like beans, corn, tomatoes and all the herbs!! Mahalo for giving us the opportunity to have this outside classroom to learn from! We appreciate you!”

  • Thai Basil Chicken Curry

    Funded Mar 9, 2025

Fun food Fridays are a highlight of our week and these ingredients will come in handy for a new dish that we would like to try. I always try to do fun things with the students in class and having them eat this special meal with vegetables they grow in the garden Will make it even more meaningful. Thank you so much for your continued support of our classroom and for helping us get the supplies we need to do awesome things in class.”

  • Rolling in the Seedlings

    Funded Mar 6, 2025

Mahalo nui loa for helping us to get these shelves for our seedlings to make it easier for us to grow and plant all the seeds we have. Pushing them into the sunlight for a few hours will also make the seedlings grow stronger and bigger. We can also use the shelf to grow microgreens again. They were not doing that great in our classroom. Thank you again for always supporting all the awesome things we do in class and we hope you continue to follow along!”

  • More Freeze Drying Supplies Needed

    Funded Jan 29, 2025

The freeze dryer is so fun to use! We have been experimenting with marshmallows, gummy bears, fruits and Skittles. We have not done vegetables or meat yet, but one day we will try to do prepared food to see if we can make our own MRE's. That would be impressive if we could. The science behind a freeze dryer is pretty impressive, but the machine itself is simple to use and can make all kinds of yummy snacks. The students have been enjoying the samples we have been making and as we get better and better at making things, maybe we can start making more for the people on campus and in our community. Mahalo again for supporting our classroom and the fun things we do!”

  • Let's Make a Hydroponic System

    Funded Aug 18, 2024

Hydroponics is an easy way to grow lots of food in a small amount of space. We are currently trying to construct a larger hydroponic raft system to add to the amount of food we can grow in our raised beds. We finally got more soil to fill additional beds and now we just have to plant more seeds for seedlings to put in the hydroponic systems. If we can produce a lot of lettuce and other leafy greens, we would be able to send home healthy vegetables with our students to improve their diets one step at a time. We appreciate your generosity in helping us to get the supplies we need to do these things in class! Mahalo!”

Agriculture has been a part of my life for many years. I am the fifth generation to live and farm on our coffee and macadamia nut homestead. My lifelong dream to be the Agriculture teacher at the high school I attended has finally come true. I have made it through my first year and I think it was a raging success. There are so many ideas bouncing around in my head and I hope I will be able to bring them to fruition.
