Help us Continue on the Road to Reading Success
Funded Aug 24, 2014Thank you again for for all of your donations. My students have enjoyed using these materials this school year. They repeatedly ask to play the bingo games. I like that they are practicing reading skills, they enjoy that it is a game. The magnetic teaching charts are wonderful additions to the classroom. I am able to use them for whole group modeling of a lesson. They are large enough for students to see from far away. It saves time to not have to recreate that information myself. The nonfiction quickies and reading intervention folders have been helpful for guided reading groups. They are brightly colored and high interest. This helps hold students attention as we work on new topics. They enjoy the fact that they can use dry erase markers on the materials.
Having these new materials has given me more time to plan engaging lessons. My students enjoy being able to play games to practice new skills and having high interest materials to work with. They are making a big difference in helping them to learn grade level standards.”

Funded Sep 4, 2014Thank you for your incredibly generous donation to my project. Because of your support my students have a variety of hands on games and activities to help them learn how to read.
Since these resources have arrived my students have enjoyed playing with the games, puzzles, and write on practice cards. They frequently ask to use these materials when they finish other assignments.
It has been so helpful to me having these materials available to support my students in learning sight words, phonic skills, and other fundamental beginning reading skills.”

High Interest Books with American Chillers & Graphic Novels
Funded Apr 1, 2014Thank you again for all of your donations. The new books have been a huge hit with my students. They are all very excited to read the new graphic novels. I used the American Chillers books in a 4th grade classroom I co-teach in. The books flew off of the shelves. My ESOL students were able to enjoy them along with their grade level peers. During independent reading time I see my students excited to read their new books.
We just finished giving end of the year reading assessments. I am very happy about the amount of progress they have made this year. I am sure that much of this progress can be attributed to the amount of time students spent independently reading. These new books helped my ESOL students have interesting books available, that they are excited to read.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Elsa and David and 7 other donors.Interactive Reading Comprehension Materials
Funded Dec 31, 2013Thank you for all of your generous donations. These materials have been a big help in helping improve my ESOL students reading comprehension skills. The fact that they are new, brightly colored, and hands on help keep my students engaged and excited about using them.
I have used the Building Comprehension Skills Activity Folders for hands on practice on new skills for students in the primary grades. These activity folders are also great for my students in upper grades who are reading below grade level. Information is broken down into manageable segments, and they to enjoy the hands on nature of the folders. The Highlight Your Skills Reading Cards are highly interactive. My students love writing with dry erase markers, an activity they would find boring if it was on a worksheet is exciting using these cards and markers. The Biography Comprehension Cards give short chunks of information about famous Americans. These cards are helpful for my upper grade students to use when learning about famous individuals, and act as short nonfiction text passages for them to read and answer questions about. The fact that the cards look new and are in color makes them fun for my students to use.
Thank you again. With these new materials I am already seeing progress in my students understanding of reading comprehension skills that they were struggling with earlier in the year. These resources with continue to help students gain a firm grasp on reading comprehension skills for many years to come.”

Mastering Math Word Problems
Funded Mar 3, 2014Thank you for all of your generous donations. The new math materials have already begun making a difference for my ESOL students. They notice the bright colors of the math materials and ask specifically to use them.
The new math games allow my students to practice complicated math skills while having fun. My students enjoyed playing the City Zoo Quest: Time & Measurement Word Problem game, and do not want to stop when it is time to clean up. While using the Build-A-Story Problem Flip Books my students get excited and ask when they will get to solve the level 5 problems. Working through the levels helps build up their confidence so by the time we reach the 5th level they are familiar with the vocabulary and structure of the problems and are successful at solving them. For my younger students just learning new math concepts the Self-Checking Math Match-Ups are an interactive way for them to practice new skills. The students enjoy putting together the puzzles, and the engaging nature of them allow for new vocabulary to be seamlessly integrated.
Once again, thank you for donating to my project. These new resources will be used by students for many years to come. They will help improve their academic and math vocabulary, and aid my ESOL students in solving math word problems.”

Help us Learn How to Read
Funded Jan 1, 2013Thank you again for your generous donations. My students are greatly enjoying the new materials we received. The file folder games are great for small group and individual practice. They enjoy playing the games, and are learning letter sounds and other pre-reading skills. The sight word center is a well organized tool, that makes practicing new words fun. I like how it has all the needed materials, and my students like the bright colors, and having materials they can move around. The vocabulary boards are well made and have vivid pictures. They help illustrate new concepts, helping even my newest student. The sound phones are continuing to be a wonderful addition to our reading groups. Students are able to listen to themselves read, and not be distracted by their neighbor.
These materials will be used by students for years to come. Thanks to your support my students have the materials necessary to gain a firm foundation in early reading skills.”

Reading Skills
Funded Aug 15, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations! My students have loved using the new materials received through this project. The ones working on early reading skills ask to use the sound phones and to play vocabulary games. Older students have enjoyed playing the reading comprehension games. I have only a short amount of time to work with a large number of ESOL students who are struggling in my school. These materials are helping make every moment count. Students are more engaged with the games, and I have content based materials at my fingertips.”

Listen To Reading
Funded Dec 24, 2011Thank you for all of your generous donations. My students have been so excited to use the mp3 players, books, and books on CD. In the short time we have been using them I am seeing progress in their ability to use the new technology and reading fluency.
One student was excited to listen to an Amelia Bedelia book when I first introduced this listening center, but she was unable to follow along in the book without losing her place. I used a media editing program to slow down the recording, to make it accessible. Now on her third book she is able to follow along at the standard pace. Another student looked at the books, and was about to choose one of the easier ones she enjoys reading on her own. She then changed her mind and chose a more difficult text after realizing she would have assistance with the audio recording.
My students view these tools as fun activities, and so are excited to use them. They often ask if there will be time to listen to a book.
Thank you again for helping me open up the joy of reading to my students as they continue on the path to learning to read/write/speak/ and listen to English. ”

Expanding Vocabulary
Funded Jun 17, 2011Thank you so very much for all of your generous donations. My students have been enjoying the new vocabulary games immensely. When they came into my room at the start of the school year they commented on the shelf of new activities right away.
When my students use the vocabulary games they are having so much fun that they forget that they are learning. The bright colors capture their attention. Most of the activities are designed so that after I introduce them, students can use them on their own. This means I can give more individual attention to one group of students while another is engaged in working with words.
Thank you again for helping me keep learning fun for my students, while bringing their language up to the high grade level standards they are held to.”

Interactive Learning Materials
Funded Jan 20, 2010Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students have greatly enjoyed using the new games I have been able to create. They are invaluable for practicing new skills in a fun manner.
I have also created new writing templates that my students use to practice spelling new words in a fun manner. Something as simple as a colorful background for writing makes practicing spelling skills more enjoyable.
It is comforting to know that many of the resources I am creating can now be reused, resulting in less wasted paper. Once again thank you to all those who donated to this project. Your assistance is appreciated more than I can express in a simple thank you letter. ”
