  • Help Us Learn to Read with the King Series Books

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you again for helping to bring the King Series books to my classroom. These leveled books feature children from diverse backgrounds. This allows my ESOL students to see characters that they are able to connect with.

I have used these books in guided reading groups and with individual students. The text is easy for them to read. The illustrations provide strong picture support. The teachers manual that came with the books highlights sight words and difficult vocabulary. This allows me to create guided reading lessons that meet the language needs of my ESOL students.

Your donations to this project is helping to create a love of reading for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tiemann

  • Empowering ESOL Students through Poetry and the Arts

    Funded Jan 13, 2016

Thank you for all of your generous donations. My students have enjoyed exploring poetry, music, and fine arts.

Students have been using our listening center to sample the recorded poems. Small groups of students have also listened to and sang along with the poems.

The materials that excite them the most right now are the art tools. Some of my reluctant readers have been exploring the drawing books, and reading the directions as they create sketches. They had fun using the ink pads to create illustrations.

Due to your donations, my ESOL students are now able to learn about poetry through the arts. As we continue to study poetry my students will continue to benefit from the arts integration.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tiemann

  • ELLs Love to Listen

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you for all of your help in funding this project. My students were so excited to see the new listening center and books on CD. They are enjoying getting to listen to books being read aloud. This allows them to increase their reading comprehension since they do not have to focus as much in sounding out the words. The books on CD also allows them to work on their reading fluency since they are listening to fluent readers on the recordings.

The listening center also allows me to preview upcoming topics with students. In preparation for a poetry unit they are listening to a variety of poems. When we begin analyzing the poems they will have background knowledge of the words and rhythm of the poem.

Thank you again for supporting my ESOL students in becoming better readers! Your donation is truly appreciated.”

    Mrs. Tiemann

  • ESOL Students Love to Play Games

    Funded Jan 1, 2016

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations. My students have enjoyed playing with these games. They were very excited to see the box when it arrived.

My ESOL students have used the games to review grammar topics after small group lessons and to practice their language skills with a partner.

After being introduced to the games my students frequently ask if they can play a game after they finish other assignments. These games are a great way for my students to review their language skills in a fun way. Thank you again!”

  • Help Us Practice Our Writing Skills

    Funded Dec 26, 2015

Thank you again for all of you donations. These materials have been a big help in my classroom.

I used the tape to re-organize my word wall. Students are now able to easily find words they need help spelling when they write. As my students write, they frequently notice mistakes in their writing and are now able to quickly make corrections with the new erasers. The magnetic letters are a fun way to teach phonics lessons. Students enjoy manipulating the letters, making the lessons more hands on.

Thank you again for the positive impact your donation has made to my students.”

  • Help Set Up the ESOL Room

    Funded Dec 16, 2015

Thank you again for all of your donations. My students are enjoying using these new materials.

They were instantly drawn to the bright new rug and calendar on the wall. They love getting a turn to read on in. This excitement has helped students focus as they are reading. The pencil sharpener is helping my students have the materials that they need when they are writing. I have been using the Magnetic Tabletop Pocket Chart during reading groups. It is portable and allows me to quickly show students examples of word patterns, sketch pictures of new vocabulary, and attach magnetic letters for word work.

My students have been commenting on all of the new materials we received with such excitement. Thank you for showing my students such generosity.”

Thank you so much for all of your donations to my project. Because of your support my students have new vocabulary cards to help them practice their language skills.

  • Vocabulary Task Cards Will Help Us Learn!

    Funded Sep 12, 2015

Since these resources have arrived my students have enjoyed using the task cards individually and with partners. They use the cards after finishing with other assignments. They also use the cards in conjunction with lessons on synonyms/antonyms, prefixes/suffixes, and nouns/adjectives.

It has been so helpful to me having these materials available to support my students in expanding their vocabulary skills.”

  • Learning For My ESOL Students

    Funded Feb 17, 2015

Thank you for your generous donations. I learned valuable new information through this project. The resources I received allowed me to put this knowledge into practice right away.

I have been using the flip books and reading comprehension cards to provide high quality tier one instruction. After reading more about RTI, the comprehension cards will also be valuable tools to help provide targeted tier two remediation.

Additionally I learned new ways to integrate vocabulary instruction into my lessons. This includes using language prompts to model academic vocabulary and strategically introducing vocabulary before reading new texts.

I am excited to continue to learn new information from these materials. This will in turn help make me a better teacher for my students.”

  • Hands on Reading Comprehension Activities

    Funded Sep 4, 2014

Thank you for all of your generous donations. My students have been very excited to use these materials this year. They often ask to play they reading comprehension board games.

I have been using the nonfiction reading comprehension cards, reading learning center, and the vocab quickies as independent and group practice activities. My students enjoy the hands on nature of these materials and the fact that they are brightly colored. I like that they clearly and simply present information.

These reading comprehension materials have been a great asset in helping my students work towards mastering grade level language arts standards.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tiemann
