Gearing Up for the School Year!
Funded May 20, 2019In order for my students to be successful, they need to have access to the tools that help them learn. We are grateful for the bins as they have made storing textbooks a lot easier and neater. Since these are materials that we will access throughout the year, it is important that they be readily available for my students when they need them. We use the bins also to store binders that they will be using for STEM month, but that we need to set aside for now. The great thing about te bins is that they do not take up much space when we are not using them. Thank you for making our classroom neater and cleaner!”

Funded Aug 8, 2019My students were so excited to come into the classroom and see so may bright colors and representation! I had some students take ownership of the decorations by putting them up themselves. They really had a blast doing it and feel so much pride now whenever they enter the classroom. Many of my students come from Latino backgrounds and feel very excited when they see their flag displayed with pride in the classroom. As we read texts in Spanish written by authors in Latin America, students are more engaged with the atmosphere around them. We are excited to put up what is remaining from the directions and look forward to making the classroom a fun and engaging learning environment.”

Funded May 8, 2019With your generosity, our year has kicked off to an amazing start! I have moved to a new classroom and it looks very neat and organized thanks to the resources that you helped provide for us! My students were so impressed with how organized the classroom was when they entered on the first day. Since they can now appreciate the organization, they are also doing a great job to maintain the cleanliness by making sure they keep things clean and return materials to their place once they are through with them. With your help, I know that this year is going to be the best!”

Funded Jan 23, 2019WOW! My students is so impressed with the books that we've acquired for the classroom! As soon as they were taken out of the packages, students were lining up to ask to borrow them. These books are used to excite kids during independent reading time both in the classroom as well as at home. At times, students also use the books to engage in an activity called PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies) where they read aloud to one another to check each other's fluency and accuracy. They also assess one another comprehension and understanding of main idea.
In the classroom, students are able to read during designated times. During this time, they sit quietly in a space of their choosing to read independently the book of their choice. I try my best to level the books and offer recommendations to students to make sure that they enjoy this time. The more they engage in a book, the better it is for their reading development.
The new books we received are enjoyed by all. My students are so excited about Diario de Nikki because of the "juicy details" and "love story between Mackenzie and Brandon". The series for Gatos Detectives has been great for students who like mysteries. The series Dani Bocafuego has illustrations with plenty of text - it has become a great Spanish alternative for students who enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants. We have students waiting to read books as other finish!
We are so grateful for these new resources and look forward to using them more and more. Thank you so much!”

Staying Clean and Safe!
Funded Dec 25, 2018My students have been feeling so excited every time a package comes in for the classroom! They feel loved and appreciated with every single item that is brought to them. Students cannot wait to munch on snacks, sip on hot cocoa when its cold outside and in the classroom as well as keep their personal hygiene in check by keeping their teeth clean and staying fresh with deodorant. 5th grade is an interesting time as my students are growing quickly and adapting to their bodies as the time goes. Not all of the families are equipped to help their children go through these changes. These products help students stay full and warm during the day and we are all so appreciative that you were able to make this possible.”

Funded Dec 20, 2018As soon as these materials arrived, students were immediately excited and asking questions! Students cannot wait to start munching on snacks and we are developing a system to make sure that they are distributed equitably and last for as long as they can in the classroom. My students are growing fast and tend to have big appetites. This helps them keep their energy up throughout the day as they power through reading books, writing essays and solving math problems. With all of the germs and flu season around, the soap helps students stay clean and wash their hands during trips to the bathroom, as often the soap dispensers in the restroom run out pretty quickly. We wipe down desks and tables frequently and are constantly purchasing wipes. These wipes are essential to keeping the classroom as neat, tidy, clean and germ-free as possible! On the first day of arrival, we already had a paper cut! It felt really good having Neosporin and band-aids readily available to help a student in need! Thank you!”

Funded Dec 17, 2018Winter is here and temperatures are dropping! We have been fortunate to have a rather mild winter until now, but having lived in Boston for my whole life, I know how quickly this can change- particularly in January, February and March! Students love to go outside for recess and many do not come well equipped with enough clothes and layers to help them adjust to the cold temperatures. It has been so wonderful receiving these items and I look forward to handing them out as students need them to keep their heads nice and warm. They can often be stubborn with me, but they can't argue too much when I hand them the hat, gloves and/or sweatshirt that they need!”

Funded Aug 26, 2018Thank you so much for making this project come to life! The students eyes light up when they see the prizes they can select from when they've accomplished something great! Other students are motivated to earn a prize when engaging in fun activities- it gives them something to look forward to for doing a great job! We are looking forward to using the other products such as poster board and construction paper to make projects more appealing and exciting to present! This year is going to be great and I thank you for helping my students succeed!”

Chromebooks = Big Possibilities!
Funded May 8, 2018We have already received the chromebooks and now we have a full class set so that all students will be able to have access to a chromebook at any point during the school day! Having access to this technology has been very helpful in allowing students to use resources online such as spanishdict.com and khanacademy. In addition, we are able to offer students the opportunity to use these tools to engage in different types of projects, such as creating google slides and documents.
Look out for pictures of us using these new resources!”
