I teach in a very diverse community. A large portion of my students come from families new to The United States. Their needs involving cultural understanding, language development and social resources are vast. My students are bright, eager to learn and extremely creative. They are children who want to explore, to discover, to create, and to share ideas. They are in need of strong educational, social and community supports and deserve the best materials, environment and education. As middle schoolers, they are growing and changing physically, mentally and emotionally. They are encountering new, strange, exciting and challenging experiences everyday and they are fervent learners meeting those experiences enthusiastically. They will be readers, researchers, creators and leaders.
