  • Flowing for Literacy With Flocabulary!

    Funded Feb 4, 2024

Thank you very much for adding this valuable resource to my classroom arsenal of online resources. My students love Flocabulary! It is especially helpful in ensuring students understand content and domain specific vocabulary in the subject areas of ELA and Science.

When using Flocabulary I modify CLOSE Reading strategies into a CLOSE Listening strategy. CLOSE requires multiple reads/ listens with specified strategies applied to each listen. The first listen is played all the way through without interruption so students will have an overall understanding of the topic. The second listen is played using the discuss feature which stops the video to ask clarifying questions. Lastly, I'll use the quiz or read and respond feature to assess student's understanding of what is taught. There has never been an instance in which a student has scored below 70% on any skill taught using Flocabulary! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Blackshear

  • Paper and Composition Books for Reading Literacy!

    Funded Oct 19, 2023

I cannot describe the impact these resources have had on my ability to teach and students ability to learn. Even with all the technology and electronics readily available to teachers, sometimes what's best for students is returning to the basics. Paper and composition books are the basics needed in every classroom.

With the composition books students are able to take and use notes, complete assignments, and read corrective feed back provided by the teacher in the same place. This helps students stay organized and self correct. Students' composition books serve as their "classroom bible" because it has everything they need in it to be successful in my ELA classroom. The paper assists in my effort to help students develop outstanding journals by allowing me to print out complex notes and assignments that both save time and measure students' understanding of what was taught.”

  • Printing and Journalling for Literacy!

    Funded Oct 19, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting the my class and our need. These supplies will go a long way in encouraging my students to write. Writing in this digital age seems to be such a difficult task for students. But thanks to donors like you, we have what we need and can begin writing to our hearts desire and publishing the masterpieces we develop. Thanks again!”

With them we plan to write, write, and write our little hearts out. Now we can keep phase of writing process separated neatly within these binders. Thanks again!”

  • Tri-Write for Writing and Paper for Printing!

    Funded Dec 2, 2022

Thank you so much for providing the resources needed for the project "Tri-Write and Writing Paper for Printing!" Since the pandemic closure my colleagues and I have had a difficulty with receiving the physical classroom resources our students need. In addition to a lack of resources, us teachers must now engage students at the highest level to compete with the digital and visually intriguing but less effective resources provided online. Funding this project has allowed me to become one step closer to successfully providing both.

With these resources students are actually able to write! There's nothing comparable to actually holding a writing utensil and using it to write. The pictures within this thank you packet show a book tasting that student were able to participate in. With the copy paper provided I was able to make invitations and provide menus that actually served as book reviews. The book tasting was a hit! That jumpstarted the use of our library books for students that had never enjoyed holding and reading a book or had lost the love with the emersion of digital resources. It caused many students to fall in love with reading a physical book. The words within this thank you letter can't begin to express my gratitude! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

  • Journaling and Printing for Literacy!

    Funded Sep 26, 2023

Thank you so much for provided the resources needed for this "Journaling and Printing for Literacy" project. Since the pandemic closure my colleagues and I have had a hard time receiving physical resources. The best way for students to learn to write is by actually writing. A simulation using a tablet or a mouse can't replicate the sensation and emotions of holding an actual pencil and writing. Writing on paper is a life skill needed by everyone.

With these resources I am able to print out reproducibles that kindergarten students can trace to learn letter formation and print out published writing samples for students in grades 3-5.”

  • Flowing with Flocabulary!

    Funded Sep 12, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my students. The Flocabulary program has had a tremendous impact on students in grades 2-5 understanding of Reading vocabulary terms. Flocabulary teaches students the meaning of in a way that is both engaging and captivating to them. Students enjoy it so much that have even been caught reciting the raps during a test to ensure they understand the terms within questions and to find support within the passage. I shouldn't use the word "caught" because it gives a negative connotation when that's actually a positive example the Flocabulary's effectiveness.”

  • Surfacing to Succeed in Reading!

    Funded Dec 2, 2022

Thank you so much for funding my Microsoft Surface. I was overjoyed when these were funded and arrived right before the winter holiday break. My students and I felt as if we had received an early Christmas gift.

This tablet/ computer really helps within a district that is not compatible with Apple products. With this Surface students are easily able to access all programs on Microsoft 365. They can easily transition between Word, PowerPoint and even Teams. The lightweight and easy accessibility on the go makes this the class's go to tablet on most projects.”

  • Surfing Our Way to Literacy!

    Funded Dec 2, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my project. With the use of this surface (which I am using to type on now) my class and I have been able to do wonderful things. As the instructor I have been able to use this surface to plan, create interactive activities and presentations for students, and to interact with my Promethean board from a distance without blocking students' view. Overall this surface has helped to improve the engagement aspect of my instruction. My students have used this surface to conduct research, create and present presentations using different programs such as PowerPoint and Google slides. The fact that it works like a desktop and laptop in tablet form is amazing!”

  • Flowing With Flocabulary For Fluency!

    Funded Sep 17, 2021

Thank you so much for sponsoring the purchase of Flocabulary. Every year it serves as a valuable tool in assisting student's acquisition of and interest in vocabulary. It's amazing to see students reciting the raps to bring remember terms on as assessment or when explaining skills verbally. Some students have even incorporated turning their weekly vocabulary words into song. This shows that not only has it helped them master the vocabulary terms and skills built into the Flocabulary program, it has also helped them develop a strategy that will help them be successful life long learners. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

My students come from diverse backgrounds and with that come an array of abilities, skills and talents. Not all are scientifically inclined, but I would say that all can learn and benefit from science--once they are motivated and engaged in the process. My school has a high number of students who are ESOL, ELL and there are a few who are SPED and gifted. Even though we have to cater for and adapt to such a wide range of learning needs, we know that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology (and teachers who care). At the moment, I am spearheading an incentive program to encourage students to work on their math, reading and science skills on their own at home, using a computer program called i-Ready.
