Listen Up! You're Going to Be a Great Reader!
Funded Dec 19, 2016I can't begin to thank you for the wonderful materials for our listening center! Being a first grade teacher, I am lucky enough to see how much my students grow when it comes to their reading ability during the course of the year. I always tell them that the way to become a better reader is simply by reading. Many of my students come to me with very little reading ability and because of that there are very few books that they are interested in reading, however, they love being read to. With a listening center, my students are able to listen to and interact with great literature, increase their vocabulary, hear how great fluent reading sounds, and just have fun with a new story. Students ask everyday if they can use the listening center and if it's time to switch to a new book. Because of such generous donors like you, I am able to increase my students' literacy skills in fantastic ways. Thank you for your generosity.”

First Grade Students and Their World
Funded Aug 30, 2016I want to start off by first thanking you, my students are a major part of my life and I know how difficult it can be for them at home so I try to give them everything that I can here at school. So often, I find that my students don't have the background knowledge that they need to build up their academic skills. I remember how excited I was whenever I got a new magazine when I was little and thought that it would be fantastic to incorporate that into my classroom. It was my first project and I was shocked that we were able to get funded so very quickly.
Just like me as a child, my students are so excited when we get our new magazines to read. I love watching their faces light up as they get the magazine and start sharing it with whoever around them that will listen. I always have to give them a good 5-10 minutes to share all of their ideas because they get that excited! When they found out that they were going to be able to take the magazines home with them, they were over the moon.
When I first requested funding I had no idea how many students I would have this year, I am used to having 25-27 kids in my class, this year, I currently have only 19, so I am able to share the extra magazines with the class next door. So, just know that your generous donations are touching the lives of many children and we are all so very grateful.”
