Farm to School Taste Tests
Funded Sep 5, 2018Thank you so very much for your generous donations! We have had a school garden program here at the school for about 4 years that the students love and I am always looking for new ways to bring the garden into the classroom. If you've ever been around a 6 year old, you know how tough it can be to get them to try new things. But with our taste tests we have made fresh pasta sauce and salads, and are looking forward to trying some new recipes as the year progresses. We also plan to create a taste test cart so that different classes throughout the school can cook and try new things as well. I thank you again for your support and for the excitement that you brought to me and my kids.”

Funded Apr 3, 2018I would like to thank you so very much for the amazing donations that we received from you. As a school that is dedicated to the teachings of STEM we are always looking for new ways to engage our students in STEM activities. They absolutely love robots and were so excited when our order for Botley robots finally came in the mail. They immediately wanted to check out all the features that Botley had and seeing what all of his accessories included. They then used trial and error to figure out how Botley worked and set up an obstacle course for him to tackle, making him complete various tasks. Thank you again for supporting our classroom in ways that we never would have had the opportunity to experience without your help.”

Funded May 9, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity and help for our classroom, it is such a wonderful feeling that there are so many that want to support our classroom. It has been a hectic but fun start to the school year. The kids are all starting to learn our routines and are so excited about all of our new supplies. They were so excited to get their own binders and can't wait to take them home at the end of the year. They have been using their white board markers and erasers everyday working on math problems and I'm already seeing them growing up. Thank you so much for your generosity, it's so greatly appreciated.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018I want to thank you so very much for your generous donation to our classroom. Our school was able to provide students with a pair of head phones at the beginning of the past school year, however after using them multiple times a day for a year and a half, most of the headphones have not lived to tell the tale. Now, thanks to you, we were able to purchase a full class set and the students are able to have the materials they need so that they can fully focus on what they are learning while they are working with our classroom technology. Thank you again for your support.”

Funded Nov 15, 2017Thank you so much for your support of our school and our supplies. Originally being an over flow school, we had elementary students in a middle school, and therefore, no playground for our kids. Overtime we have all worked to get new supplies for our students out at recess. I had previously gotten a project funded for a large set of recess materials and knew that if we had a way to store them we would be able to keep them safe for all of our students for a long time. The students are thrilled and now that the weather is starting to finally feel like spring, we will be getting all of our new materials outside for a lot of fun times. Thank you again for your support.”

Funded Nov 21, 2017I want to start off by thanking you for your generous donations to our project about Mo Willems. He has been my favorite author of children's literature and each year I share the fun and build new Mo Willems fans with each class of students. I have a love for these books because they are focused on topics that all students can relate to. Also, Mo Willems discusses the way he illustrates his books: he creates characters that can reasonably be drawn by a 5 or 6 year old. Because of this I am able to have my students create comic strips and their own books about the characters and they are able to feel as though they are authors and illustrators as well. Having these books as a new part of our classroom library will only help build confidence, fun, and excitement in our classroom. Thank you again for your support!”

Happily Ever After in First Grade
Funded Sep 21, 2017In my class fairy tales hold a special place in my heart, the magic of the stories is one that has always resonated with my students. They sit on the edge of their seats waiting to find new fairy tale features and compare different versions of the books. Then after they have heard many different ones, we move into writing our own versions of the fairy tales, where they pick cards and use the ideas that they are given to make their own magical stories. It amazes me every year the levels of excitement and creativity that I see in my students. Now with these materials we will be able to add even more to our unit so that students will be learning about seeing things from new perspectives and even be able to act out the fairy tales. Thank you so much for all of your generous support of our class.”

Everything We Need, Except the Kitchen Sink!
Funded Sep 13, 2017I want to thank you so very much for your amazing generosity. In our school we get very little funding when it comes to everyday school supplies and being that we are in a community of such high levels of poverty we do our best not to make the parents feel as if they have to purchase materials for their children. This leaves it up to us as the teachers to purchase many of the materials with our own money. Thanks to your generous support, I will have plenty of materials that I will be able to use not only this year, but in future school years as well. We have even begun up-cycling our old and worn out crayons by melting them into molds and creating new swirl crayons in a variety of shapes. Thank you again for supporting The Crotty Kids!”

Funded Aug 31, 2017Our school has always been missing something when it came to recess. Being that our school used to be a middle school we do not have a playground. I have always felt like I needed to do something to make recess more fun and exciting for my students, because spending 15 minutes running around on a piece of tar just wasn't good enough. Each year, we as the teachers would go out and buy new toys for the students, but it still was never enough. The few balls, jump ropes and hula hoops would inevitably be a little too loved, or end up on the roof. I knew I wanted to find a way to get more for my kids. When I asked my principal, we decided that we needed supplies that could be easily moved in and out of the building so that we could try to keep our materials as safe as possible. My students were thrilled when they opened the packages and saw all of the wonderful things that you, our donors, made possible. Thank you so very much for your generosity, it is so greatly appreciated.”

What Can I Build if I Don't Have Any Blocks?
Funded Nov 29, 2016I cannot even begin to explain just how excited my students have been upon receiving their Legos! When they first saw the box, they all started screaming and begging me to open it up. They are over the moon and it's often difficult to stop them from being so creative when it's time to put the blocks away. Being at a school where students are encouraged to be creative and engineers, it's so much fun to see them have materials that they need to show off all of their skills. I have been so impressed by all they have made and their interesting ways that they have come up with to use the materials. They get to use the materials anytime we have indoor recess and Fun Friday, and it is the first thing that everyone wants to play with. Again, I thank you for giving my students something that I just didn't have the money to purchase for them myself.”
