This project will allow my students to focus in an environment that works for them. I want my students DOING so I need to design my space to encourage and motivate my second graders to DO IT. There are many benefits to creating flexible seating options for students. Comfortable classrooms are good for the mind and body of our students. An article from Edutopia states that 73% of student progress can be traced back to flexibility and choice. While still keeping desks in the classroom, I think it's important to get the kids moving around during their time in my room to keep them focused. The items I have requested are perfect for the concept of flexible seating. Poufs are super popular, so students could grab a clip board and get started on work right away. What's nice about poufs is they could be used many different ways - sitting, kicking up your feet, the possibilities are endless! Kids LOVE working on the carpet. A carpet is perfect for a big group to collaborate on a project or for a few students to spread out and work individually. A carpet is alway very versatile and perfect for flexible seating. Lastly, a desk is another good space where students can work if they choose. Many flexible seating options have students sitting, but this standing desk is a great alternative for students who would rather stand than sit.
