Help me give my students basic necessities and every day toiletries to focus on staying in a learning space as opposed to being distracted.

Laptops for Learning Language and More!

Help me give my students new laptops with longer lasting batteries. Our current laptops have been used for several years and the battery life is very low preventing them from focusing on their work.

This is such a wonderful way to close out the 2024 year!! Thank you for funding us!! Funded Sep 23, 2024

We have already funded the first part of our care closet in just under 24 hours! Amazing !!! Thank you so much and I cannot wait to see how the kids do with all these things available to them. This really means the world and thank you so much. If you are able to make another donation to my other projects currently happening or share them, that would be fantastic as well!”

  • Healthy Snacks for Healthy Teens

    Funded Jan 9, 2024

This project was immensely helpful to so many teens who needed a place to work on their college work, their high school assignments, and sometimes just a place to decompress. Every single senior that ate a snack from my office last year has now graduated and you were a part of that.

I have now departed from the Maspeth community and am working in the Bronx. If you are looking to donate to a classroom this year, it would really be helpful if you could check out my latest projects. We are hard at work already with our first marking period almost through and we have so many obstacles ahead.

Thank you as always for your support- none of this work would be possible without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rieger

  • Accessible Project Based Learning for MLLs and SWDs

    Funded Sep 18, 2018

As the school year continues on, my students have continued to use the supplies and resources that you contributed to our classroom to prepare for citywide and state assessments and engage in a variety of learning activities. We have been working on argumentative writing and having access to markers and highlighters have assisted in improving our craft and structure while reading and writing.

My classroom draws in a variety of students from Spanish club to our regular class sessions to our additional advisory and intervention periods. All of the students who have entered my classroom this year have used the supplies you donated in some way. Not having to worry about looseleaf or pencils truly helps my students focus on the work at hand.

I hope that you will continue to support classrooms in our school as we continue to change and grow as a school community.

Thank you again for your support.”

  • Enable Access to Education Through Supplies

    Funded Aug 20, 2018

No one tells you that when you become an educator, your classroom does not magically become a Pinterest ready space or that the places that made learning magical when we were children took a lot of work and donations to create.

We no longer live in the era of the school supply list, at least not NYC public schools, and when I say every bit helps, it's an gross understatement.

English language learners have to do everything twice. They not only have to learn a new concept, but they have to review what they know in their home language to see if they know it already. Middle school is a challenge for anyone and that additional layer is a lot of work for the students. Not worrying about a binder, a folder, where their homework is written, or to remember to bring a pencil leaves the focus on academics and increases the space for learning.

Thank you is an understatement. My classroom is brighter and better organized thanks to your donations. You made my students and me smile.

This was my first ever Donor's Choose project and it is so helpful to be reminded of how good people truly are.

    Happy holidays.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rieger

My students come from one of the lowest income regions of New York City. School supplies are difficult for families in middle class neighborhoods to acquire and for the students in my school, it is one more roadblock on the path to equitable education. Since starting at my school, I have ensured that students my students have the supplies they need for each school year, but this year I'm shifting to binders and it is getting more costly. My students need organization skills for high school and college readiness: these supplies will give them the tools they need now and later. Furthermore, I engage my students in project base learning and reading projects throughout the school year. By having book bins, binders, and dividers, they will be able to thoroughly engage in autonomous learning and have control over their organization.
