  • Empowering Student Seat Flexibility!

    Funded Sep 4, 2017

My second grade classroom is "hopping" with joy! :o) My students are LOVING the yoga ball seats! I see an improvement in student engagement and achievement! Their behavior choices have also gotten better since implementing our new seating choices. The colorful yoga ball seats add brightness and cheer to our classroom setting.

The white cubicals also look GREAT in our classroom! I've received many positive comments from my colleagues and parents!

THANK YOU very much for your kind donation! I will be forever grateful for your thoughtfulness!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hayashi

  • Building Stronger Minds Through Nonfiction Magazines!

    Funded Jul 17, 2017

Thank you so much for the Scholastic News articles and plastic bins to keep them organized! My students are truly enjoying the magazine articles. We have been reading one magazine article a week and my students are always asking to read more of them.

My second graders are engaged in the articles and they have learned so much in just the 6 weeks that we've been in school! They have learned all about the different communities (urban, suburban ad rural), how to be a good citizen (responsibility, respect, kind, safe), the difference between a lion and tiger cub and the importance of the US Constitution.

Your kindness has brought BIG smiles to many faces! :-)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hayashi

  • Building Healthy Relationships Through Cooperative Learning!

    Funded Jul 4, 2017

My second grade students are enjoying the board games, Legos, and STEM materials. They are learning to work cooperatively together! The Legos are a class FAVORITE and they are working together to build creative objects. Some groups are building communities out of Legos and others are just experimenting with creating the Lego models that are shown in the Lego instruction guidebook.

The board games, Connect Four and Jenga game are also a big hit during indoor recesses. Our classroom is full of energy and laughter during our indoor recesses! It's such a great place to be! :-)

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!”

    With gratitude,

  • Building Stronger Math Foundational Skills One Student at a Time!

    Funded Jun 21, 2017

My second graders are making great use of all of the math manipulatives that you have graciously donated to our classroom. My students love working in small groups with me because they enjoy using concrete examples.

The base ten blocks are awesome for showing numbers in different ways. My students are able to trade ones for tens and tens for hundreds. This will help them with regrouping numbers.

They also love using the write and wipe hundreds board and number lines. We have used them to add two-digit numbers, locate even and odd numbers and using the "make ten" strategy when adding numbers.

I have seen great gains in their math skills since using the new math manipulatives and eagerness in wanting to learn more math! THANKS again for your generous donation to our learning environment and for helping to make learning FUN again!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hayashi

  • Must Have Social Emotional Books for Learning

    Funded Jul 3, 2017

Thank you so much for the wonderful collection of picture books and our brand new color printer. Since the beginning of the new school, I've read a handful of our new texts. My students are enjoying the read alouds and the activities that go along with each text. These particular texts are excellent for teaching social emotional learning!

These books are helping to teach students how to treat others, be kind to one another and the importance of being responsible, respectful and safe. After each read aloud, the students create an end product such as, a group poster of how to treat others and self reflections of how each student can be a good friend.

I also plan to have my students create type written products so that they may print out their work using our brand new printer.”

  • Guided Small Group Instruction

    Funded May 25, 2017

My second grade students are enjoying their new small group table and dry erase white boards and supplies.

They were so thrilled to see the brand new kidney shaped table when they walked in one morning. They had lots of questions; like "where did you get it from?" and "can we use it to work in groups?".

I added vinyl sticker dots to the table so that students would be able to use the dry erase pens to write directly onto the table. My students are always eager to practice their writing and math skills using the dry erase supplies on their brand new table. I've also added a few new comfy ottoman chairs to use with the table and it's now a "hot commodity" in our learning environment!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hayashi

This classroom project was brought to life by Lynne and Marc Benioff and one other donor.
The kidney-shaped table will be used daily for small group math and reading instruction. Students will be able to get either one-on-one or small group instruction with the teacher in order to meet their individual needs. Students learn best in smaller group settings; therefore the kidney-shaped table will be perfect for engaging most students in various activities and lessons. The white board materials will help engage students to participate in daily activities. The white boards, markers and erasers will be used for math practice and reading and writing skills practice. Students enjoy using white boards versus paper and pencil. Students will be excited to learn using them
