As a special education teacher the students I work with are ones who struggle with academics. Trying to be like everyone else and fit in can be difficult. The students lack confidence and are afraid of being made fun of when they struggle with reading or completing a math problem incorrectly. We are a small rural school where the class sizes are small (15-20 students in a room). They are children who are looking for a friendly face to greet them, listen to them and play with each day. Hands on activities excite these students and any work they can complete on their own helps to build their self pride. These students receive services in the classroom or in a self-contained setting.
