We are blessed to have nearby the San Joaquin River Wildlife Refuge. This refuge protects migratory birds as well as as native California species. These binoculars will aid a team of student naturalists in bringing the wonders of this reserve to classmates and elementary school children. I hope to share the wonders of nature to be found right in our own backyard. Of particular note is the presence of Aleutian Cackling Geese a species that has been brought back from the brink of extinction through the efforts of this refuge in cooperation with other refuges between their breeding grounds in the Aleutian islands and stopovers to their wintering habitat here.
