  • A Word from Our Students

    Funded Mar 15, 2022

Thank you for believing in our students and this project. How do we continue to practice culturally responsive teaching? First and foremost it is having the right materials and equipments so that our children may have access. From all of us to all of you, thank you sincerely for bring this project to life!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Melgar

  • Warm Bodies Ready Minds

    Funded Jan 29, 2022

I am so thankful for Ms. Olga Graham for being such a big advocate for myself and my students. She generously came in and doubled the donation which lead to all the generous donations coming in and funding the project in less than 2 days. Before that, it sat on donors choose since December. I cannot wait to share the wonderful news with my students and thanks to you, they will be warm and moisturized all year along! I am going to get the school logo and their signatures printed on the sweaters to keep them inspired and motivated. And I will attach a note- "Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can." Thank you!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Melgar

  • Stop the Squinting

    Funded Oct 20, 2020

With my current 11-inch laptop screen, I am unable to see the formatting of my content as well as my students at the same time! Using a second screen helped me present material in a more engaging way. Having the option of extending my screen allowed for me to work on content off one screen while being able to see all 45 of my students on the other screen.

It made zooming every single day with my students so much more conducive. I was no longer only calling on the same 4 students who shows up on the immediate gallery bar when I am sharing screens! yah!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Melgar

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron and one other donor.
  • Getting Hooked on Great Books

    Funded Dec 22, 2020

Because of you students were able to read, attach post-its for annotations, mark specific pages for reference and/or discussions, and prepare for classroom discourse as we discuss the books more in depth during our socratic seminars and during our break-out room sessions.

This book was relatable to my students. The family in the story struggles with homelessness but never with hopelessness. The book tackles job loss, food shortages, and illnesses. There are some parallels we can find in our current life situation now. I envision rich, close to the heart conversations that will lend itself to organic personal pieces of writing.

    Thank you!”

  • On-Demand Learning With Remote Learning

    Funded Jan 22, 2021

Remote learning was so difficult on so many levels. What made it worse was that many of our students did not have the right materials that they would have had access to in the classroom.

This projected funded allowed our students access. Access to learning. Access to growing. Access to trying to meet grade level standards. While it will never take the place of what we are able to do in the classroom, it was a little semblance and a small taste of a bit of normalcy. And this was made possible because of you. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Ink To Help Us Think

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Having a printer without ink is like having a car without gas. Thank you so much for allowing us to run at full capacity again.

With our printer up and running, students were able to print out their writing assignments and engage in peer editing and go through the writing process in the right way. Students are able to print out relevant research information and have visual aides for their presentations that was not on Google slides. Students are able to create brochures for their investigative projects.

This is a gift that keeps on giving! Thank you!”

  • Inspirational Women in Aerospace

    Funded Jan 25, 2021

It is so important for our students to see that leaders are male and female. With our newly elected Vice President who is not only a woman but also a person of color, female students are finally seeing some role models that they can relate to. People they can aspire to become. Models who are leading the way.

The books for the project "Inspirational Women In Aerospace" allowed for us to have deep and rich conversations about the marks and legacies that were left behind from not only women, but women of color. We read the books and were able to write responses that were thoughtful and impactful.

    Thank you!”

  • Financial Literacy and Bare Necessities

    Funded Dec 27, 2021

Thank you so much for selecting our project to support. We are grateful beyond words. As you know, if our tummies are not full, our minds are not open. And learning becomes a challenge. Thank you for supporting my class with the bare necessities of snacks, hand soap, and Clorox wipes.”

  • What the Heck is Up With My Tech?

    Funded Sep 15, 2020

Thank you for your elimination of the FREEZE during remote learning. Having the new devices has allowed for some frustration free Zoom time. We no longer have to waste our time with trouble shooting and having to ask the student to log and and log back in. If that doesn't work, restart the iPad and try again. Oh, wait, that doesn't still doesn't work? Maybe clear the cookies/cache and see if that will speed things up. It won't close? Okay, force quit. So far, there has been no issue logging in and time has been effectively used for instruction instead. THANK YOU!”

  • Adapting to Learning/Teaching @ Home

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Thank you for helping me get a slight leg up in this tight race of remote learning. It is so hard to get the kids engaged because we cannot physically be in the same room, so I am thankful that I will have another tool to support them both figuring out what their needs are as well as during their learning time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Melgar
