Magnetic Letter Boards and Journals
Funded Oct 23, 2020Thank you so much for your generosity! Teaching online is challenging in a variety of ways. There are so many materials we take for granted in our classrooms that the kids do not have access to at home. Thanks to your kindness, my students were able to have a few of the materials to help them succeed at home with them.
I was so nervous at the idea of teaching digitally, but my students have blown me away with their success. They have surpassed any expectations I had going in, performing just as well as children in the classroom. Donations like yours have been a driving force behind their success.
Thank you so much. You are appreciated.”

Funded May 13, 2019Thank you so much for donating to my project. My students have loved the language arts games. It has been wonderful watching them learn through play.
The book organizers have also pleasantly surprised me. I knew they would make a huge difference organizational-wise, but it's also nice because I am able to color code books and have my students use books that are on their level just by telling them which color bin to look in. So, they still do have choice, while also being on their level.
Thank you so much again. I appreciate you more than you will ever know.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Craig Newmark Philanthropies and one other donor.Dive Into Learning
Funded May 10, 2019The resources were so appreciated! Everyone loves wearing their tye dyed shirts on Wednesday's. It makes me so happy to see the variety of color we were able to make the shirts this year.
All the bulletin boards turned out amazing. I appreciated how colorful and beautiful they are.
We have been using the materials to create some wonderful art projects. We're blessed with a retired teacher who comes in and helps the kids do art about once a week. Their work with her is always exceptional. I appreciate all the construction paper so much!”

Hodgepodge R’Us
Funded Jun 25, 2018Thank you again for your kindness in donating to our class. We all appreciate it so much!!
My class this year leaves building and working with STEM. I was a bit worried the legos would only be usable by my highest quartile (which is still important because unfortunately oftentimes the highest kids are the ones who get overlooked and are bored in the early grades); however, I am happy to report I was wrong.
All the materials (pencils, paintbrushes; etc) are so appreciated. The media is always referencing the amount of money teachers spend and a big chunk of that comes on "little things". It makes me feel so blessed to be able to teach and know I have support for buying these things. The paintbrushes that had been in my class were — I kid you not — older than I am. It's something I've struggled with because while they were so old and not the best looking, it was hard to justify replacing them. I am thankful I was able to, because the kids appreciate the nice newness.
We're planning a fun fall leaves painting activity. I will probably wait to post pictures until we have those completed.
Thank you again for all you do.”

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Arts Funder and 9 other donors.Kindergarten Microscopes, Manipulatives, and Games.
Funded Dec 9, 2018Thank you so much for supporting my class!! My students have LOVED the materials from this project. They are in awe of the microscopes -- they think they are the coolest things ever. I have to keep them out of their reach or they would also want to touch them. It's so exciting to see them this excited about science.
They also love all the materials for the light table. The intricate projects they have built have quite honestly impressed me. My school is only K-2, but I would put my kindegarteners against any older student in building and expect them to have a better understanding.
Their math scores have been great using the math manipulatives. Every single kid is excelling and I am so proud of them.
Thank you again for supporting my classroom. It means so much more than words could ever say.”

Award Winning Children's Literature
Funded Sep 25, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity!! The books are all so amazing. One of them is entitled "Stay!" It's a bucket list that the little girl makes of things she wants to do with her dog, who is aging. Throughout the book they do all the times on the bucket list, but it ends with them sitting together and says something along the lines of "all that had ever been on his bucket list was to be with her." It was such an incredibly sweet book.
Another one was about different perspectives. I believe the title is "they all saw a cat." Every page draws how the cat looks — sometimes the cat is terrifying (to the mouse), sometimes it looks like prey, etc. it ends with the cat looking in a stream and seeing its own reflection. It led to so many discussions about perspective.
All the books are so fantastic. The children (and I) adore them. I appreciate your kindness so much.”

Learning with a Light Table
Funded Aug 19, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity!! The light table is amazing. It arrived in a huge box. When Ms. Marie carried it into our room we were in the middle of calendar math. The kids eyes all grew SO big and the excitement in the air was amazing. I put it together while they were at art, so when they returned to the classroom it was ready and I will never forget their reactions.
The table is really cool because of the color change feature. If the one in our library has that feature, I've never seen it. Whenever I initially wrote the project, I didn't realize how interested the kids would be in how it works. I wouldn't be surprised if this class all grows into scientists and engineers! I'm planning to use it as a springboard into a lot of fun science experiments.
Thank you again for supporting our class. It can be frustrating teaching at a low SES school because the more affluent schools have access and money to more expensive things. However, thanks for donors choose, we're able to close some of that gap and give my students access to expensive things their peers in more affluent areas are exposed to. Thanks for helping me close the gap and help expose all kids to a variety of fun learning tools.”

Having Fun with an iPad and Simple Machines
Funded Jul 5, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donation to my class!! My students LOVE having the iPad in the class. There are so many amazing games that sneaks learning in. The students think they are playing, when in all actuality they are learning. It's such a blessing.
The legos are amazing as well. So many amazing stem learning opportunities. The kids do an incredible job building — can already see a difference in their constructions. I can't wait for the year to go on and watch them develop even further.
Thanks again for everything!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Verizon.Reading with Mo Willems!
Funded Nov 30, 2016Let me begin with a HUGE apology. I did not realize I never completed this project. It honestly completely slipped my mind and there are no words to adequately express how truly sorry I am.
Now onto the great news. This project was even more successful than I imagined (and I had high expectations!) Kids love all of Willems' books so they've been a huge motivator in helping the kids learn to read. More importantly they help the kids learn to love reading, which has always been my goal. Ultimately all kids will eventually learn to read, but unfortunately so many never learn to actually love reading and instead view it as a chore. I can honestly say thanks to your help, my kids love reading and books.
Your support of my classroom is so meaningful.”

The Bare Necessities
Funded Jun 14, 2016My class and I are loving the supplies. This year roughly 1/4 of my students were able to buy any of the school supplies we ask for, so it has been such a blessing not stressing about how I am going to get school supplies and paper for my class. While other teachers were worrying about paper and such, I was stress free. I ended up sharing some of my supplies with some of my coworkers who were low on funds and unable to buy things themselves. It made my heart overflow that I was able to pass on the kindness. I told everyone where it came from, but it was nice to have the supplies to share.
Beginner pencils are quite expensive from the local office supply stores (I priced a class set and it would be 20$). They are so beneficial to kindergartners, as they are larger and easier for the kids still working on their fine motor skills to successfully write. It has been great having them from the get go for my students. We have to supply all the paper for anything that we have copied (tests, work pages, letters home, etc), so the paper has already been put to use! Since it's just the first week of school, we are doing simple things like name writer, learning how to write letters, etc. We also do a gingerbread hunt (we start reading the gingerbread man and a puzzle piece falls out of the book telling us that the gingerbread man has been spotted on our campus. It instructs us where to go. It allows the kinders to explore the school, learning where classes such as art, music, pe, library, etc. are in a fun manner. Whenever we arrive at a destination, we find another puzzle piece telling us where to go next. We end up back the classroom where we put together the puzzle and it's a huge gingerbread man and we find that he left us small gingerbread cookies to eat. The kids love it and we have used the markers and such to decorate our own personal gingerbread men.
I have sent a few supplies home with kids who told me they didn't have tools such as pencils and coloring utensils at home. In the past when I have had students who didn't have these supplies at home, I had to go out and buy them, so it has been a huge burden off my shoulders to be able to have supplies on hand to share with my students. I wish there was a way to capture their joy when I give them supplies to take home -- it is truly contagious.
Thank you so much for everything. I get tears in my eyes sometimes talking about donors choose and what a wonderful blessing it has been to my classroom and, more importantly, to the kids. I love the beginning of the year because it's another chance to love on a new group of kids and, thanks to you, supply them with such simple things that are so meaningful to them.”

Ms. Bason
