  • Coding Fun With Robots

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

I am still so speechless over the amount of support this project has had in recent days. I am so happy to see so many people concerned with helping to enrich our students ability to code and use technology in a useful way. I know our students will be super excited to begin this new journey using these robotic materials!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Velez-Gilmore

  • Working With Wigglers to Save the World!

    Funded Apr 30, 2019

Thank you again for all of your support to our STEAM class! Now that Spring is upon us our students look forward to working in our garden. I am confident that the excitement of observing how our garden "waste" will be recycled and turned into useful compost will surpass the excitement of receiving these much needed materials!

Words cannot express how happy I am that there is so much support for our STEAM projects. Our students cannot wait to use these materials to enrich their learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Velez-Gilmore

  • What's Cooking In The STEAM Lab?

    Funded Mar 22, 2019

Thank you for all your donations! Our students were so excited to open the boxes and find all the materials we will need to begin our cooking unit! Our second grade students began their unit by inviting a local chef, Chef Noah, to come into our class to show us how to properly handle food and safely cut using our new child friendly knives.

After we learned how to safely use our materials our second grade students wanted to show their support for all the word our third grade friends were doing to complete their state exams. We made apple pancakes and shared them after they completed the test. The materials not only taught our students how to properly use kitchen supplies but it also encouraged thoughtfulness and kindness towards others. We plan on using the materials to learn more about States of Matter and how we can manipulate matter by cooking food in different ways.

This project sparked a conversation around obtaining healthy food and sparked the inspiration for our next project: creating a school garden and using the scraps to create compost. We want to thank you for all your support on this project and the many to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Velez-Gilmore

Our student population is very culturally diverse and we want to use cooking as a way to highlight this diversity. Our students have researched the importance of developing good eating habits. However, they struggle to try less sugary foods that are outside of their comfort zone. We want to take the knowledge they have learned and put it into action in their hearts! The cooking supplies will help us instill healthy eating habits that our students can take with them long into the future. We know that the most important part of trying any new food is to become excited about eating them. The best way to create excitement is to cook together as a community. We are confident that we can use these cooking supplies to bridge the gap between Health Science education and personal health choices. The best memories we carry with us tend to be wrapped in a warm cooking experience. We know our students will continue to reflect and benefit from their newly acquired culinary skills.
