Time for Kids
Funded Oct 7, 2012We are so enjoying the Time for Kids magazine subscription you and Donorschoose made possible for my four classes. Over sixty children each week benefit from this great resource. With our own local paper publishing a limited time each week, these is an even more valuable resource than ever. The students in particular liked this past weeks magazine on the Top twelve Stories of the Year. Also, week before last, they learned about the top five inventions of the year.
Because of individuals such as you and Donorschoose, you have made this wonderful magazine available to my students. There is not any way they would have received such great resources without you.”

Eyewitness Our Science Library
Funded Oct 15, 2012Awesome! That is what I heard when we opened the box of books shipped of Eyewitness Books. My students were so shocked and pleased when they saw them. Needless to say, my little scientist are thankful and pleased to have "brand new" books.
As I said in my project proposal, I want my students to discover their "inner scientist." These books are doing just that. They can spend hours perusing and pouring over these wonderful science books.
Thank you so much for making this science library possible. Because of donors such as you and Donorschoose, you have made this project a reality.”

Time Trek to Ancient Greece
Funded Apr 30, 2012Thank you so much for the book sets of "Ancient Greece and the Olympics" and "Hour of Olympics" to reinforce what we are learning in our Greek mythology unit. My students are thoroughly loving them and enjoy the fiction and non fiction elements of both.
They are truly making real world connections to ancient mythology and their life today. When I gave them examples of how Greek mythology is used today, they were surprised to learn that the word Nike came from ancient Greek mythology as well as finding out the name of their nearest NFL team (Tennessee, Titans) came from mythology.
Without generous donors such as you and Donorschoose, these wonderful resources would not be available to my students.”

Think Like An Ornithologist
Funded Mar 29, 2012When I started this project, Think Like an Ornithologist, I did not expect the positive impact it would have on my students. Because of your support of our project, you have made it possible for my students to have this very important learning experience. They are learning about the birds around them, how to protect and conserve their habitats, and also, and probably more importantly get outside and enjoy and appreciate nature.
I can't thank you enough for your generous support of this project. I thank you. My students thank you, and if the birds could, they would be thanking you. The field guides you provided has been an integral part of it all. I am fortunate to have some great windows in my classroom that look out to a small grassy area of our school campus. We have placed bird feeders to attract more birds. When they see a bird they do not recognize, the students immediately go to these field guides.
Our local Birmigham Audubon Society came to our class and has shown them how to use the field guides and they love it.
Once again, thank you so much! ”

There's at Least One in Every Pellet
Funded Apr 10, 2012I cannot begin to be able to tell you how much your donations means to me and my students. Dissecting owl pellets has been the highlight for my students every year, but every year there are no funds. Without donors such as yourself, this project would not be possible.
At first, my students are a little skiddish to get into taking these pellets apart. But even the most skiddish child always manages to overcome their fears and get into the project. The smiles on my students faces when they discover bones that they can match up and can compare to their own bones is so worth it. It really brings to life that we are all part of a big food web.
Thank you so much to Donorschoose and to donors such as you for making our project a reality.”

CheMystery
Funded Dec 7, 2011What a day we have had! My students just loved doing these experiments with the material we received from the Cabbages and Chemistry kit. They have been studying a unit that emphasizes the very basics of chemistry starting with atoms, molecules, and then elements. The Cabbages and Chemistry kit continued this with hands on lessons in acids and bases.
If it were not for people like yourself, we would not have had this wonderful opportunity to experience chemistry like a real scientist. I can "Tell them" - but they may forget. I can "Teach them" and they may remember. But, most importantly, if I "Involve them" they will learn. Because of your help, my students were able to be involved, thus learn.
Thank you so much.”

Dissect It and They Will Learn
Funded Jan 1, 2012I wish you could have seen my classes as they were able to dissect these frogs. "Cool! Gross! I can't wait to tell my Mom what we did today!" Those are just some of the things I heard this week as my students were able to do this great activity. Oh, and when some of them found they had a female frog because of finding eggs, you would have thought they had discovered a wonderful treasure. I believe you helped turn on some students to the study of biology.
Thank you so much for sponsoring our project. Your generosity made our project a reality and the students will talk about this for years to come.
Thank you and Donorschoose for helping my students learn because as Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." You were responsible for making this happen.”

The World's Greatest Artist
Funded Nov 30, 2011Thank you again for your generous donation to our project, "The World's Greatest Artist." Today was the first day I shared the books with the students. They certainly loved them. They teach them about famous artist in a friendly "kid-speak" language. These books absolutely compliment our artist of the week period of the day. On our bulletin board, we have starting posting copies of the artist picture and they are starting to look for differences and similarities between the artist. We even talked about "surrealist" artist this week. I'm learning along with them.
Without donors such as you and Donorschoose, this very important resource would not have been available to my students.
Thank you!”

Chunk Those Dangerous Chairs!
Funded Oct 20, 2011I can't begin to tell you how excited my students were when they came in this week and saw the new chairs. As you know, I have a different group every day, so I get to enjoy the excitement over and over. It has been so much fun. They love the color. They can't get over how comfortable they are and how much safer they are - not wobbling and creaking.
Your generosity is overwhelming. My room looks like it is brand new with these beautiful chairs. I hope from the picture, that you see how they are enjoying sitting in them.
Thank you so much for your generosity. Without donors such as you and with the help of Donorschoose, this would not have been possible.”

Dissect It and They Will Learn Part 2
Funded May 5, 2011Today was the second day (I have a different group of students each day) to dissect our starfish. My kids had a blast! The starfish and the new dissecting equipment truly made my culminating activity for our unit a dream come true. This project brought so much excitement to my children who would not ordinarily have this opportunity. I hope you see from their thank you cards how much it meant to them.
I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. I hope you know how much this means to the students we teach.
Thank you again and thanks for supporting us through Donorschoose.”

Ms. Peacock
