The weather station that I am requesting includes sensors to measure wind direction and speed, temperature, humidity, and air pressure. The station is needed as part of a project designed for students to explore the field of meteorology. Through the project, students will learn the importance of meteorology in protecting people and in tracking climate conditions. Students will also learn how to collect data, and look for patterns that can be used to make predictions about future weather events. They will work collaboratively to create a weather forecast and be given the opportunity to communicate their findings to an audience of their peers, teachers, family members, and possibly industry and academic partners.
The weather station will be placed in a secure location on the school grounds and students will access data in the classroom through wireless data transmission. The data will be used by students for tracking weather conditions and to prepare their weather forecasts.
