The spiral notebooks will be used on a daily basis to model the Scientific Process Skills. The students will use them to sketch scientific phenomena, take research and content notes, brainstorm investigation ideas, write hypotheses, record experimental data, and compose conclusions. Simple paper in a notebook becomes a representation of doing "real science", where the students model the process of career scientists. The journals are an essential tool in my classroom and represent an amazing collection of thought and knowledge. Our students often arrive unprepared with materials, so the journals and pencil boxes full of pencils, pens, highlighters and other office supplies I already have, will give them an essential tool kit to record their amazingness.
