Funded Nov 28, 2021I start by showing the cover of the book and title and read a page or two to get them excited to read their new book. We discuss what they predict what the story is about. I too will relate concepts to students' personal experiences and/or background knowledge.
Reading these new books has made a great impact on my students as it has made tremendous improvement having them stay focused and enjoy the new diversity of books. It has also helped reduce levels of stress because they get to read books they enjoy reading at their level. The students have shared all the new things they have learned by reading their new books.
The proficient readers started off by getting excited to read the new books. The other students saw the excitement and eagerness and they too wanted to read the new diversity books. All my students are now reading the new books. Some of my proficient readers sit and partner read their new books with my intensive kids and they love it.”
