  • Music to My Ears!

    Funded Jul 25, 2019

For the last few weeks, my students have blossomed into amazing musicians and it's all thanks to your generosity and giving hearts. My third-grade students have been learning to read music notes, keep a beat, and learn about rhythm. Every Tuesday, my students eagerly await Music Time so they can play their recorders and learn to play another song. At the moment they are learning to play "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."

My students had the sweetest expression on their faces when they saw what I pulled out of the boxes. I did have a few students that had no idea of what a recorder was, which is why your donation was so unbelievably special. It's one thing to learn about music through books, but having your very own instrument takes the learning to another level. My sweet little students are so appreciative of everything they are given and don't take their learning for granted. They treat their recorders like newborn babies!

In just a few weeks my students will host their very first Music Recital and will perform on stage. I can't wait to see the expressions on their parents' faces!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gallegos

  • Time for Reading!

    Funded Jul 24, 2019

Thanks to your beautiful hearts and generosity my students have discovered the world around them! Through the articles, my students have learned about geography, volcanoes, government, and so much more. Every week, my students receive a Scholastic article and learn about a new topic that is relevant to present day issues. They are anxiously awaiting the next article!

I have seen reluctant readers transform into engaged and enthusiastic readers. The nonfiction articles are child-friendly and engaging. They enjoy using highlighters and markers to annotate and take notes. They have also been inspired to become editors and write their own informational articles!

The learning doesn't stop at school. My students love taking home the articles and reading them to their parents. The parents are appreciative of the collection of articles they now have. Unfortunately, not all of my students have access to books or have the means to get to the public library, therefore these magazine articles have been a valuable asset to my students. My students want you to know that they are thankful and "Happy like a kid in a candy shop!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gallegos

  • Do Hermit Crabs Have Lungs or Gills? Let's Find Out!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My 3rd grade scientists thank you! The hermit crabs came just in time to elicit curiosity for our Adaptation Unit. Although I have great books that provide amazing information, nothing beats the experience my students gain with real life hermit crabs. Holding them and watching them peek out of their shells brings excitement and smiles to their faces.

My students were in awe of them from the second they arrived. They will continue to learn about the hermit crab's habitat, their diet, and survival mechanisms. They will log their observations in their science journals and the changes they see.

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards your generosity.

    Thank you,

Mrs. Gallegos and Future Scientists of America”

  • Future Heroes In Need Of Books

    Funded Feb 2, 2012

It is with heartfelt gratitude that I write this letter. I am extremely thankful for your generosity. With your support my students are able to have access to nonfiction reading materials that only enhance classroom learning. Having a variety of rich literature readily available has broadened my students knowledge about American inventors, political activists, humanitarians, and explorers. My second graders have become experts on topics ranging from butterfly life cycles to where their food comes from.

It is amazing what students can learn when given the resources. You have made it possible for my students to succeed. I am grateful for your generous donation. My students thank you and I THANK YOU!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gallegos

The majority of my students are second language learners and 100% of them qualify for a reduced/free lunch program. My students are passionate about reading and are inspired to succeed. They have learned about past heroes that even when stricken with obstacles, they did not render easily. My students are inspired to succeed and are not rendering either. Many of my students' parents are working jobs with long hours just to keep afloat, they don't always have extra money to purchase books. Libraries are not always walking distance from their homes and the neighborhood is not the safest. I don't want my students to lose their dreams.
