Students Make Art to Raise Awareness and Field Trip Funds
Funded Feb 20, 2024I want to express my greatest appreciation for your donations. It is because of your generosity that our students were able to attend multiple field trips this year because of the money raised using the Donor's Choose materials. Our students were able to express their creativity for a good cause and benefited by being able to attend field trips to Sacramento, Mare Island, UC Berkeley, and camping at Slide Ranch. You have helped to make their fifth grade year one to remember.
It is because of people like you that have made classrooms and school places of joy and creativity. We hope you know just how special that is!”

Funded Jan 23, 2024My students are so excited to use the new and improved headphones. Before receiving these, we did not have a full class set of working headphones and students were left without and had to share. Now students are assigned their own pair. I truly believe that these headphones have improved student engagement as they are able to do activities that they were not able to previously. This helps their ability to learn. Students can listen to stories as they read, record themselves and their thinking, and they can create content.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for donating to our project, our school, and our students. It's not often that we get quality learning materials but through your donations, we received some real quality headphones.”

Let Learning Roll Their Way With a Portable Whiteboard
Funded Jul 6, 2023Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. Your donation made it possible for our class to have a portable whiteboard for learning and collaboration. We don't have much learning space on our classroom walls. This whiteboard is being used for students to work on and discuss math problems together, create posters for a gallery walk, and display student work. I love that is two-sided because on one side we are working on creating a growing timeline of important events in history. This whiteboard has given us so many opportunities to grow and it's only September!
I am thrilled and so grateful of the support of the Donor's Choose community and local leaders like yourselves that are investing in our children!”

Funded Jun 26, 2023Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. Your donation made it possible for me to bring the supplies we needed to start the school year off right. My students have individual binders to help them organize their work and keep track of their academic progress. This skill is important as they transition to middle school. They have been using the electronic stapler to staple their work together before turning it in - another way to practice being responsible and organized. Our students also have class jobs. One of the most coveted jobs is being the "Taylor Swiffer" which includes dusting, sweeping, and mopping with Swiffers! Our class is learning how to create a responsible and caring school community.
I am thrilled and so grateful of the support of the Donor's Choose community and local leaders like yourselves that are investing in our children!”

Funded May 30, 2023Thank you so much Eat. Learn. Play for donating to our classroom. Your donation made it possible for me to put books in my students hands and help cultivate their love of reading. In our Unit 1 for EL Education, my students and I read Esperanza Rising and learn about human rights. This project allowed me to purchase a class set of Mercy Suarez books which follows the story of a Latina girl going through a big change in her life. We use these two books to make comparisons between plot elements and character analysis. And my students love are loving this book so far!
I am thrilled and so grateful of the support of the Donor's Choose community and local leaders like yourselves that are investing in our children!”

Funded Jul 14, 2020Thank you for helping supply our classroom with much needed items. We are using the pencil boxes for students to keep their individual supplies so that we are not sharing things and can keep their own supplies to themselves. They were very excited to use them and their compact size allow them to store easily.
We also appreciate the extra hand sanitizer and tissues. I advise my students to wash or sanitize their hands throughout day and the hand sanitizer has come in handy especially with multiple stations to avoid overcrowding in a specific area.
We are doing all that we can to stay safe, avoid transmission, and stay in school. We are so excited to get to learn in person this year and we appreciate your donations to help make that happen.”

Campers Need Sleeping Bags
Funded Apr 24, 2018Our sleeping bags arrived just in time for camp. Students that did not have the resources used the sleeping bags donated from our friends at Dick's Sporting Goods and Donor's choose during their stay at Camp Arroyo. These bags will be loaned out to our future fourth and fifth graders as we hope to make this camp adventure a yearly event.
When I first brought the box into the classroom, the students leaped from their chairs, arms raised. When I explained what was in the box, that made our campers even more excited for camp because we were leaving in only a few days. Also, the students who didn't have the resources had one less thing to worry about - purchasing a sleeping bag!
As the end of the year draws closer, we are connecting what we learned at camp with our lessons in class. There is already talk of improving our cafeteria procedures and possibly starting a compost heap in our garden. Many students still talk about the awesome adventures we had and how they learned so much more about the rock cycle and water during our camp explorations!
Thank you again for your donation!”

Flexible Seating to Help Us Thrive
Funded Oct 13, 2016I am writing to express my sincerest thanks for donating to our student's education and well-being. I was delighted to hear that our class was chosen to be funded. When I told my students, many couldn't believe that their needs were recognized by others outside of our small town.
When the boxes finally arrived we were so excited! Many students wanted to be the first to use the new seats and chair cushions. While I did reserve the wobble chairs for students who absolutely needed them, I had a few left over to share with the rest of the students. One of my most "squiggliest" students said, "Mrs. Andrews, these chairs are awesome! Every teacher should get these for kids like me!" I've noticed that these tools have proved to be extremely helpful in our students' learning. Parents and other teachers have taken notice!
Thank you again for donating to my classroom. I am working towards more flexible seating options for our students to create a 21-century classroom. In the future, I hope to include exercise balls, cushions, and bean bags.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Andrews
