My students are not your typical high school students. They are committed to being in our band program, as well as many other school organizations. A lot of our students are not just students; they have part-time or almost full-time jobs in order to help out on the home front. Despite their backgrounds and situations, these students are some of the best students on campus, and they always represent our school at a high level. In my classroom, we focus on what each student is bringing to the ensemble and how to best develop their current skills in order for them to grow. Each year is a different group of students--this is the goal of my band. After one year, most students have acquired the necessary skills to leave my band and join one of the more advanced bands.
