  • Help Fill the Need!

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

Thank you for everything. Even though our year was cut short these supplies still impacted my students in a positive way!

My students were beyond excited to have new pencil sharpeners I believe that was their favorite new gadget! These supplies will continue to help my classroom in years to come.

Right now my kids are gearing up for the summer with distance learning and this time is so uncertain. Thank you for your continued support of my classroom this year. Your kindness and generosity during this year does not go unnoticed!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thomas

  • First Year Teacher+Title 1 School= HELP!

    Funded Sep 6, 2018

First, let me start by saying Thank you! Nothing compares to that reaction my students had everytime we got to carry a package from the front office or received one during the day! They got so excited to open the packages, see what you all funded, and help set up each part of the room! Some items they did not understand the need of them until it was time to do editing, and then it all clicked as to why we needed colorful pens. I would say that they're favorite item is, hands down, the arm rest pillow, they bicker over it constantly!

I love seeing our classroom as a place of comfort now! Some of my favorite items to see the students use are the new dry erase boards, and the lights in our library. The lights add a calming, comforting mood and keep my students focused during Reader's Workshop. I was extremely tired of continuously asking my mentor to borrow dry erase boards, as were my students, so the moment we received the dry erase boards Math ran smoother and we wasted less time trying to find necessary materials. I owe much of my students math growth to those dry erase boards and the amount of practice we put into them!

We will be starting a new project this quarter on Endangered Ocean Animals and I can't wait to see the great research papers, models and displays they create. As we continue in our year we can't help but to remember those, who thought of us! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thomas

Lighting was such a major success in my classroom this year. My students were calm and relaxed, ready to put in their best work when the lights were out and there was but a glimpse of shine. I want to expand my lighting this year so that I use the room lights only when necessary. Flexible seating seemed to be a hit this year but I only had a few items; this year I am thinking go big or go home! Kids enjoy having options, (voice and choice) so adding more floor seating and slowly taking away desks will definitely be a plus for my environment this year. I would also like to lower tables so students can sit on low stools instead of chairs and high stools. Giving students options to choose their seating arrangement lowers the amount of complaints, increases their willingness to work, and also helps with their comfort levels, eliminating the distraction of peers. Some of the other great items I have included are dry erase clipboards because I am always missing clipboards and dry erase boards, so I thought it would be extremely helpful to have a 2 in 1 item that students can just grab and use when working on the floor or during rotations within the classroom/ other classrooms. The shelf with the cushion is a seating area for the library in which students could sit comfortably to read a book. My students are constantly sharpening pencils and unfortunately broke the pencil sharpener I had last year! This classroom will be a home for 20+ new students in August for the next 10+ months, and I want these students to feel they have a choice in their learning environment, which in turn will bring them great success this year!
