Time constraints and large class sizes have made it difficult to provide students with more engaging lessons and personalized learning opportunities. As a teacher, I have found ways to incorporate engaging hands-on activities and technology (when working and available) where time has permitted. I have adopted a flipped classroom approach to remedy these obstacles, where students receive the “lecture” through teacher-created videos at home and the “homework” or practice is done in the classroom. This approach allows for students to have more time to practice concepts in a variety of ways. Math centers or stations will be used in my class to provide students with multiple options for interacting with new math concepts. One of the stations will be a technology-based area, where students will be given opportunities to use tablets to explore new concepts, play games or use apps to interact with current content, research, or to complete video lectures/tutorials (for students without access to the internet at home). The tablets will also be used to take pictures of real world examples, create art projects, and presentations. No more are the days where lecturing and quiet notetaking is sufficient for student growth and achievement, and this style of teaching is not an option for me. These students deserve to have innovative and meaningful learning experiences. We need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
