Learning Adventures on a Magic Carpet

Funded Nov 13, 2015

We were so excited to receive our project shipments! First to arrive was the classroom carpet. It's bigger and brighter than we expected, which is great because each of my third graders truly has a square of their own... and they fit perfectly! Its been great for classroom management. I call students to gather on the carpet and dismiss to their seats by their carpet square color. I meet with small spelling groups on the carpet, students sit on one square and use another to sort their words. Nice, neat and tidy spaces prevent partners from getting their words mixed together.

We also love gathering together on the carpet to enjoy reading adventures! It is a time and place for us to work collaboratively, turning and talking about our learning.

Next to arrive was the blue and green hanging pocket chart with enough pockets for 30 students. Each student has a pocket labeled with their name, our class in alphabetical order. At a glance I can see who is missing an assignment and follow up with each student to ensure work completion. When I remove the papers they're automatically in alphabetical order, which makes entering grades so much easier. This is a great time saver!

Finally, the colorful book boxes were delivered. The students are thrilled to have a portable bin to store their books in. Now, when it's read-to-self time, they simply grab their book bin and choose a place in the room to get cozy and read.

We thank you for your generous contribution, which helped our project request come true!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Singleton
