The central core for my class is global health. Students have spent two years building various biotechnology skills around the common thread of human disease moving from a global to a molecular perspective. It is important that students learn to honestly evaluate their data, identify, and correct any mistake. These skills and techniques are basic inquiry research tools students will need as the rate of discovery in biology continues to accelerate at an astonishing pace. This technology also comes with ethical implications that students need to consider. Students in my class are also learning to analyze ethical issues that often accompany advances in research using scientific data, principles of ethics, and reasoned judgment. This project will provide a real look at the unexpected journey science can take.
