Sweat to the Beat

I would like to thank you all on behalf of the dance department and dance team at Southside. We did not have the minimum of what we needed and with your help and the help of others we were able to create something special. Something that gave a wow factor, and something to make every student feel that they were loved. We have used the resources given for pep rallies. The uniforms were able to be worn at our basketball games. To hear the crowd screaming was a joy.

When our students first laid eyes on the fabric they saw the idea and vision that I as the teacher had for them. I was able to take the Kente cloth and make skirts for the students. To see them at our black history program, dance their hearts out was so warming. Knowing that something so small was a big deal to them.

Our next steps for us are to get bigger and better. We still lack in a ton of things. Such a sound system and mirrors. Southside was able to host its first performing arts recital put together by myself. To see the parents and faculty compliment the students and also let them know how they had never seen any of this before was a thrill. We just want to continue to grow.”
