I teach in an overcrowded, below poverty, title 1 school. The students at this school all receive free lunch and breakfast. This is the only meal that some will have on a given day. My wish for these students is to have all materials needed to provide them with an education they deserve, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic situations. By providing the materials requested these students will enter a classroom that is prepared to reach every student where they are. My hope is they leave my classroom not only with the knowledge they've been taught, but the life skills we discuss on a daily basis. I want them to not only learn, but learn how to learn. Every child has the right to a good education and as a teacher we have to promote our teaching strategies and stand up for the needs of our students. I am honored and blessed that you have chosen to help me become a better teacher for our leaders of tomorrow!
