This technology will allow my students to access a variety of educational apps such as SchoolKit Math App, SeeSaw, ChatterKid, and Book Creator. It will be an invaluable way of giving the kids a way to access stories beyond my classroom library. Listening to podcasts such as, "Pants on Fire" or "WOW in the World" will give them a chance to explore different topics and storylines beyond what we read and learn together as a group. My students participate in Daily 5, a style of reading instruction that allows choice, and one of the choices is to "listen to reading". Not only do the students listen to each other when they read to someone else, but podcasts give them the chance to listen to stories told by authors and other children, outside our classroom. Stories told by someone other than their teacher and with the opportunity to use technology as well, will make their learning that much more engaging and exciting to them. I plan to provide headphones for each Fire, and I also intend on looking into some sort of hub unit to connect two or more headphones into one Fire at a time so that multiple students can listen to the same stories at the same time, if possible. Daily 5 instruction has increased my previous students' love for reading tremendously and I believe that this addition to my program will only compound what has already been established as a great way for the students to explore information, reading, and learning.
