  • Embrace Your Uniqueness

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

This project was so very dear to my heart. The world is every changing and it's more important than ever to have books about kindness and diversity. I am so grateful that this project was funded. I am excited to be able to use these books to teach students the importance of acceptance. Acceptance of self and of others.

These books are going to be an amazing addition to our media center. I will be able to promote the books for students to check out and I hope that these books give them some understanding how important it is to see people from the inside.

Thank you Donors for your generous contributions to allow these important books to be a part of our library collection. They will make a huge impact!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Donovan

  • Let the Student's Read!

    Funded Aug 22, 2020

There is nothing more gratifying than seeing students fall in love with reading. The looks on their faces when they see the boxes of books come through the media center is just priceless. It fills me with joy to see their excitement to check out the new books!

These books will also be a great supplement to my lessons. Every year I promote the importance of being kind. I read a few stories and then we do various activities throughout the school to spread kindness to all. I am excited to be able to share these new kindness books to students this year.

These books will add so much more to our library. Students are always looking for new holiday books and these books will be such a great addition to the ones we already have. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting our school.”

  • SSYRA Is Grrrreat!

    Funded Jun 25, 2020

My young students LOVE books. They especially love the Sunshine State books because I create a fun lesson to go with them. Usually I have to wait a couple months until the books come in from our book companies, but by getting this project funded, I am able to start with these amazing books at the beginning of the school year.

School starts next week and with everything going on, I know reading these books to the students will be a highlight of their day especially when I add fun crafts to them. Even from 6 feet apart, it will be a way to connect.

For my Second graders, they will be thrilled to be able to check out these books in order to earn their brag tags for passing a quiz on the book. You can see what these tags look like in the pictures. The looks on their faces as I hand them the tag to add to their necklace is priceless. They love to walk around showing their friends their accomplishments. Once they earn 10 tags, they earn a celebration at the end of the school year.

Thank you for all you do to support our students across the world all the time and thank you for supporting me. You are amazing!”

  • Read Away With SSYRA!

    Funded Jun 18, 2020

I am very excited to start this school year off having these Sunshine State books in our library. Every year I am waiting months to get a copy, and now when our students return on Monday I will at least have one set of the books for them to check out. I have set up a website with book trailers of these books to get the students excited to read. I have also bought "brag tags", as you can see in the pictures, to go along with each book. Students will read the book and take a quiz on it. If they pass with 80% or above, they earn a brag tag. Students that earn 8 brag tags will be able to join a fun celebration at the end of the school year.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to this project. With everything going on, it will be a nice surprise to the students to see all these new books in our library. It shows what kindness can do and also how important reading is.

Although I am unable to show students in pictures, I want you to know that your contribution is going to make a great impact on a lot of students.”

    Mrs. Donovan

  • Hook'em With Books!

    Funded May 28, 2020

Thank you for your generous contributions to complete my reading project. I am beyond excited. As we begin the new school year, I am excited to be able to have the books ready to start our book club. Although at the moment, book clubs are put on hold, I am hopeful that soon we will be able to start in the near future.

Some of our students will be returning to school next week and I am overjoyed to be able to have these books on hand when they return. I have already bought the "brag tags" that go with each book that we received in this project. Students that read the book and pass the test will be able to earn these awesome tags. I have also created a virtual room with book trailers for all these books. During the second week of school, students will be listening to these book trailers to get them excited about reading the books.

Students are going to be so excited when they come back and see all these new colorful books. I, myself, am thrilled to be able to share these with them especially since I have not seen the students since March. Thank you for making an impact on our students.”

  • Rebuild The LEGO Wall

    Funded Jan 1, 2020

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for contributing to my project to help build the Lego wall. Over the summer before school started, I had this idea to turn one of our library walls into a Lego wall. When the students came to school they were all excited to play with it and create their masterpieces. Unfortunately, the material I had used to apply the Lego pieces to the wall was not sturdy enough and the pieces kept falling off. Because of this, I needed to keep the students away from it.

The materials that you have helped supply allowed me to fix this and now the Lego wall is stronger and better than ever. The students were so thrilled when the Lego corner was reopened. As you can see from the pictures, these were the first students that were allowed back in to create, and they were very engaged in the challenge. What I loved even more was that after this day, students came in the media before school just to work on the wall and create amazing Lego masterpieces.

The extra Legos in the project also allowed me to do whole class Lego challenges at the media tables. We used them during Dr. Seuss week having students build Dr. Seuss houses. What an imagination a young mind has!

Thank you for all you have done to allow me to make this happen. You are truly the hero. As soon as schools reopen, and I can get back into my classroom,I will be able to grab their thank you notes they created and send them out to you. Thank you for being so patient. Stay safe.”

  • Got Base?

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

There are no words to describe the pure excitement on my students' faces when they opened the box of Osmo bases! They were so excited. Osmo is one of the technologies that my students love to use. Although they love that they can make amazing drawings to give to me, I love the educational aspects of it.

We have many students that have transferred to our school that do not speak English. Osmo allows me to put English speaking students with non English speaking students and work on spelling English words. The students enjoy this because to them it is a game, but I know that they are learning in the process.

Osmo has also helped my low performing math students with their math skills. Students work in pairs and learn how different numbers combinations can add up to the same sum. This works great in our classroom because this is a skill that all students must know.

Thank you so much to my donors for making this happen. It is generous people such as yourself that helps supply materials that we desperately need as teachers. You all are my heroes!”

  • Go Big or Go Mini Spheros!

    Funded May 1, 2019

Thank you for your generous donations to my Sphero project. The students were so excited when they had heard that our project was funded. The look on their faces when they opened the boxes was priceless.

What a huge impact the spheros have made already in our classroom. Students have been learning about spacial concepts in their classroom so I thought I would bring it into the media lesson. I put tape on the floor and students needed to move their Sphero in the direction that I told them ( above, over, under, etc). The students had so much fun with this. Then I allowed the students to make their own tape mazes and share them with other students. It was such an amazing, interactive lesson!

My next step is to teach the students how to code their Sphero to move through the mazes. I can't wait to see what they achieve! Thank you so much!”

  • Captivating 6th Grade Readers with SSYRA!

    Funded Apr 28, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation to my reading project. This school year, I would like to captivate my 6th grade students to read more by introducing them to the Sunshine State Books. To do this, I made QR codes for all 15 sunshine state books. I placed all the books around at different tables. The students came in and with their iPads they scanned the QR codes and watched the book trailers for all the books.

It was absolutely silent in the media center. All the students were engaged. They rotated through all the stations and when they were done we had a wonderful discussion. They all wanted to check out the books and read them. I am so grateful to donors choose to be able to get a set of these books for the students to look at.

I have never had 6th grade so interested in reading. Thank you Donors Choose and my generous donators for making this happen! I am forever grateful!”

    With gratitude,

  • Basic Supplies For All!

    Funded Dec 20, 2018

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to my project of markers, crayons, and colored pencils. Although this sounds like a simple request, it has made a huge impact. I love the reactions of the students when I open the boxes of materials and the students see all the different colors available for them to use. I've heard a lot of "wows" and "it's so pretty".

Since receiving the supplies, the students have used them quite often. Many have used them to color pages through Quiver that brings their pages to 3D by using the app on an iPad. Recently we have used them to decorate our circuit Valentine's and also to make Valentine cards to our loved ones.

These supplies will be used all year long for the 780 students I teach. Thank you so much for making this happen. I am truly grateful.”

Students at this school are hard working learners. They may come from homes that are struggling, 73% of them are on free or reduced lunch, but that doesn't stop them from wanting an education. The students are multiracial, 40% white, 31% hispanic, 23% black, 3% asian, and 3% combination of races. This creates an environment of acceptance and tolerance for all. My challenge is to level the playing field so that students with less opportunities are able to compete academically with those who have more opportunities. In my learning environment I endeavor to set them up to win in an environment that is inviting and comfortable. Sometimes that means school supplies, mending clothing, a bandaid, or a kind word. I believe this will not only help the student focus, but will also produce higher level of work from the student. Teaching these young learners is a privilege.
