Makerspaces and reading combine to form the Library of the Future! I would like to incorporate makerspaces into our school library to inspire students to read more. Most students now a days are constantly on the computer, video games, etc. Some of these video games, such as Mind Craft, allow the students to build and create worlds. I would like to show students that when this creativity is combined with literature and reading, that great things can happen. Students can make the stories that they read come alive through their creativity! Makerspaces help students to become independent thinkers, creators, and problem solvers, but I would like makerspaces to inspire students to be readers as well! Some of the materials that I have listed are building materials, they include: duct tape, KNEX, Q-Ba-Maze, Marble Run and straw builders. The students will use these materials and their imaginations to create models. The students will also use these materials to complete Makerspace challenges. In these challenges the students will have to be independent thinkers and use their problem solving skills. I have also listed a couple Makerspace books to motivate and encourage the students. And last, I have included a supplies organizer to help keep our Makerspace supplies organized. This organizer will allow the students to be more independent in finding the materials that they need. This will save time and allow the students more time to create!
