Most of our students come from a low social economic background who were not given the opportunity to read from an early age. Our students here a JJAEP must read when they are done with their work in class. I have observed students pick a book and quickly get bored because our current selection lacks a variety of interesting topics suited for students of this age. The few books we have been able to purchase has peaked their interests in reading and has resulted in a waiting list for these books!!! We have even had requests for series books. Our students are showing an astounding interest in reading; and the more they read the more they increase their reading ability. With a wider variety of books to choose from, these books will help foster that interest and will help put them on the road to becoming life long readers.
