  • Teenage Boys In Need: Help Replace Worn-Out Backpacks

    Funded Jan 1, 2017

You made our day! My teenage male students needed your help in replacing their worn-out backpacks and you cared enough to help each and every one of them. For your generous donation to my students thank you.

Once again, when the box arrived at our classroom door my students said in a loud voice, "it came, the bags! " "Ms. Walcott more backpacks" "cool, I'll take this one" " thank you all, thank you for giving us this bag". They each choose a bag and wore it home. The students looked polished wearing their backpacks and they will get lots of use out of each and every school bag.

Again, thank you for putting a warm smile on my student's faces and helping them to build their self-confidence for the 2017 school year.

    Your support is always needed.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walcott

When the box arrived at our classroom door my students took the box and opened it up with a loud, "Wow, it's all great stuff, I need one!" "look at the bunnies, I love that color..." They each choose a bag and wore it home. The students looked polished in them and they will get lots of use out of each and every bag.

Again, thank you for putting a warm smile on my student's faces and helping them to build their self-confidence for the 2017 school year.”

  • Special Needs: Computers Help Us Build Background Knowledge

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

With deep appreciation, my students and I are thankful for the donations given in support of our computer project.

Your generosity will bring comfort and help in building background knowledge in my students with disabilities, while putting smiles on their faces - and I am forever very grateful. We are in a district with budget cuts and a community with very high property rates, for those major reasons, we feel fortunate to experience such a privileged donation. With my guidance in writing the project my students were able to practice self-advocate skills and hopes for a better future- taking care of my students social, emotional and physical needs means the world to me.

The thoughtfulness shown towards my students, I teach and care for is especially meaningful and greatly appreciated. Every person and program counts when it comes to educating and caring for the overall well being of my students.

Again, thank you Anonymous Donors, #BestSchoolDay, Asoka & Think It Up Supporters and DonorsChoose.org staff for making this project come to alive. The generosity and kindness of programs and people like you helps to bring smiles to my students faces while allowing them to build background knowledge to be Career and College Ready.

Many Many Thanks for helping to ease the anxiety they are faced with each and everyday.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walcott

  • My Wonderful Students Need Basic Supplies

    Funded Mar 22, 2016

Thank you all for your effort and donations to our project. You all have made one of my biggest problems not as big. The biggest challenges in helping to change the lives of my students is the lack of money or resources to buy well needed classroom materials especially Wide-Rule binder paper and Sheet Protector. You have help in supporting our classroom project and for that we are grateful. We have started using the Wide-Rule paper for practicing skills in all subject areas from classroom assignments like the writing process to take home assignments to complete and return the next day in the Sheet Protectors. As a special education teacher, I believe that "Empowering Students Through Art" is extremely essential in developing my students' critical thinking skills. My students very often must illustrate his or her own thinking on a given writing assignment.

Some of those areas include writing in reading literacy, math, informational writing and completing reading responses to be career and college ready.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walcott

  • Help Us Complete Our Writing: We Need Strong Pencils & Paper

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

On behalf of my students, thank you both for the donations towards my project and thanks to the Donorschoose.org staff who helped to make it all possible.

The #BestSchoolDay gift demonstrates thoughtfulness towards my students I teach and care for. This is especially meaningful and greatly appreciated by all of us. Every donation counts when it comes to the care and well being of my students and school. The generosity and kindness of programs and friends like you helps to bring smiles to our students with special needs...easing the anxiety they face with each and every day. My students are very grateful for the wonderful outpouring of love and unselfishness that you have shared with them.

Again THANK YOU! DonorsChoose.org, Nova Shashi Rana and #BestSchoolDay for making my day the best of them all. As it is your goal as well as mine to make each day rewarding a positive experience. Through your efforts and generosity toward my wonderful students, you are helping us achieve our goal. Thank you so much for the very generous donations!”

  • Envelopes: Differentiated to Target All of Their Needs

    Funded Jan 3, 2016

We are so thankful for all of your contributions to our project " Envelopes: Differentiated to Target All of Their Needs". These supplies will be used to differentiate and target all of my students with disabilities needs. The envelopes will be used to place task cards into for the student centers and to store small lose parts of an assignment that may have not been completed due to time restraints. Also, to also hold flashcards and other learning tools. Not only does it benefit the student academically but it validates how important organization is to being successful in school, college and for career readiness.

    Again, many many thanks!

Have a prosperous and Happy New Year.”

  • Please Help My Students Complete Their Science Projects!

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

My students and I thank each and every one of you for the donations given to our project: Please Help My Students Complete Their Science Projects! All of you have made one of my biggest problems not as big.

When the boxes arrived to my classroom the students opened them up to see what was inside. Upon finding the rocks, lab coats and the Earth's model my wonderful students jumped up and actually screamed, I mean screamed, "Thank you donors-you are very kind people doing all of this for us-wow". As the loud chorus of conversations about STEM projects continued, one student turned to me and said," Now this is what Science is all about", pointing to the content in the boxes. I am still very pleased to see and hear the excitement of my wonderful students when they put on a pair of safety glasses and a lab coat to examined the rocks and do messy experiments in the classroom.

With that being said, our school has a very high poverty rate and the majority of our students are minorities who've never been exposed to developing scientific hands-on inquiry skills, which creates an urgent need for them to be exposed to career choices and you all have done just that.

Again many thanks for all of your donations in support of our Science classroom project.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walcott

  • Empowering Students Through Art: Help Trim Laminated Pieces

    Funded Jan 2, 2016

A million thanks for contributing to our project "Empowering Students Through Art: Help Trim Laminated Pieces".

The resources you have donated to my students are already helping to make their lives easier. My students are able to visualized and see live demonstrations on the importance of preservation and conservation of materials. With that said, we are currently working on creating student centers that are differentiated to meet the needs of each student.

Again, I am truly grateful to each and every one of you who took the time to care about my students and contributed to our project "Empowering Students Through Art: Help Trim Laminated Pieces".

    Many Thanks.

Have a prosperous and Happy New Year!”

  • Basic "Life Essentials" Hierarchy of Needs: Food and Happiness

    Funded Dec 13, 2015

Thank all of you for contributing to our classroom project, Basic "Life Essentials" Hierarchy of Needs: Food and Happiness. This act of kindness demonstrated to my wonderful students that wishes do come true!

We are a Title I School and have close to 100% free lunch servings. Maslow's hierarchy of needs (1943) stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. For example, the longer a person goes without food the more hungry they will become. With that said, I requested an assortment of snacks as a part of our positive behavioral reward and to keep my students strong, healthy and focused.

What is more, all of you have helped to changed lives! Thank you. Craig Newmark, The DonorsChoose.org Team and Scott and Olivia, for making one of my biggest challenges not as big. You all have brought a burst of hope and joy into the lives of my dear students. They have been observed being happy, eating healthy and mild mannered. As a result of these donations to my classroom management, my students are a step closer to fulfill their hierarchy of need.

Again, I am truly grateful to each and every one of you who took the time to care about their basic life essential hierarchy of need food and happiness.

Have a prosperous and healthy New Year!

    Thanks a million.”

  • Special Needs: Please Help My Students Get Their Supplies

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

Thank you all so much for donating to our classroom project "Special Needs: Please Help My Students Get Their Supplies". My students are very grateful for the supplies. When the boxes arrived to our classroom, my students screamed with joy and excitement. As I opened up each box of supplies their chatter of appreciation and thank-yous filled the classroom environment.

With that said, you all have made one my biggest challenge of helping to change the lives of my students not so big. This multi-usage paper and other supplies are being used to posted projects in various subject around the classroom. This beautification multi-usage paper is beginning to make our classroom come a life with color and allow students to identify various steps in the writing processes and space by color.

Again, we are excited to be one step closer to reaching our goal. The supplies you have provided are being used to prepare my students for college and career readiness. They are now able to use the supplies to practice independence and organizational skills. And our classroom is now a neater and clutter free environment.

Lexi Mitchell and Android Pay, I am very humbled by the generosity have shown to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walcott

Our amazing students are mostly descendants of Mexican and West Indian backgrounds. By the end of the school year our students should be able to improve their reading and writing comprehension skills by at least one grade level. My favorite quote for the students is, "You become what you think about." My students have shared with me dreams of graduating and moving on to the next grade level. My biggest challenge in getting the students there is lack of technology and resources.(ex: interactive smart board, basic supplies, healthy snacks, personal care package) My quote relates to my students' social and emotional growth. With my guidance the students have set short and long term goals to help make their dream of graduating a reality.
