  • Sequoyah Book Award Selections

    Funded Aug 28, 2024

This is the most amazing news to receive on a Friday! I am forever grateful to those who choose to help kids and their educators get the resources to enhance their lives. These books will be instrumental in achieving the goal of making this year’s book award nominees more accessible and, by extension, increase literacy rates in the process. Thank you again!”

  • So Fresh and So Clean in the Library

    Funded May 9, 2023

The library has definitely seen the impact of this project being fully funded. We were able to put many of the items to use right away - such as the bandages, tape, and cleaning cloths. The other items are currently being utilized as we increase signage in our space.

The laminating sheets were the first things to be used. A couple of the photos show them in action as shelf signs. Eventually we will make ceiling signs using the other signage supplies provided by this project. This will increase engagement in the space and help students feel more informed as they browse the library.

Again, thank you so much for your generosity not only towards my project but also towards public schools in general.”

  • Book Clubs for Book Fans

    Funded Aug 19, 2023

Thank you to the state of Oklahoma for providing this grant to support student learning. I know my students will appreciate the chance to get to read the variety of books and discuss the themes in discussion book clubs. Thank you again on behalf of all the students my library serves!”

  • Let's Collaborate in the Library!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

This school year has been flying by, and the materials bought through this project have been used everyday in the Library. We were able to get a wheeled basket and lightweight handtruck to replace the items that were unavailable, and this has made carting books and laptops so much easier! The wands have been essential in our fight against germs (plus my library aides think they make them look like Jedi when they use them). By far the most popular have been the whiteboards. These get used everyday in the Library. Students use them to review for tests, to practice presentations, and we have one that we use as a doodle/question space where students can contribute answers or other ways of communication. It really promotes building community across the school, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Study Aids for Success

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Our school has intense college prep programs and our students are expected to take several exams over the course of their four years here. In addition to AP and IB classes, we also offer the chance for our students to take the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and ASFAB tests. Through the library, we offer online test prep programs, but many students prefer to use books as study aides. The selection of test prep books that I was able to buy thanks to the grant money that was used to fund this project have been in constant use since they were added to the shelves. Our test prep sections is one of the highest circulated areas in the library, and I was so pleased to be able to provide quality, updated materials for our students to utilize as they prepared for their exams. Thank you again for providing the means to change lives!”

  • 3-D Tech in the Palm of Their Hands!

    Funded May 3, 2022

I apologize for the delay in uploading this impact letter - somehow time moves faster when you get into the flow of the school year! However, that does not diminish the gratitude that me and my students had when we received these doodle pens. I wrote this project on the recommendation from another teacher in my building who uses them in his tech theater class, and I was excited to incorporate the technology into library lessons and offer them as a learning tool to my colleagues. The biology teacher and I collaborated on a cell lesson, and her students created a 3D model of a cell using the pens. I have plans to host an after school monster party in October where kids can design and create their own 3D monster to keep. Thank you so much again for your generosity in supporting schools, teachers, and students!”

  • More Maker Magic!

    Funded Nov 29, 2021

Much time has passed since the funding of this project and today, and in that time my students have had so much fun engaging with the items and creating memories. Even as I type this, a group is playing a very intense game of Spoons with the card deck and another group is playing Scrabble as they wait for their parents to pick them up after school. Because of these items, the time will pass more quickly for them and they are working on those interpersonal skills that we know are so important for well-rounded kids to develop.

Because so many types of items were bought with this project, I am able to rotate the use of a few at a time. By doing so, there is always something new to discover and engage with when students come to the library for a brain break. I want to express my thanks to you all again for helping this project come to life!”

  • Necessary Nonfiction

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

I am so appreciative of individuals who take time out of their busy lives to support a school with an important initiative. The books that were added to our library through this project had an immediate impact on my readers almost as soon as they were unboxed (my library aides couldn't help but preview many of the copies before they were even shelved!). The timing of this project being funded couldn't have happened at a better time as many of the titles were featured during our Nonfiction November campaign. This program highlighted several nonfiction titles in our collection in the hopes that more students would be interested in reading them. Due to the diverse titles acquired by this project, the campaign was a success and many of these books were checked out during that time. Thanks again for your generosity!”

  • Makerspace Magic!

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

The reaction to these materials being used in the library space has been so beneficial. So far there have been three permanent Makerspace stations using the items: a community coloring poster, coloring sheets using the markers, and origami using the specialty papers and how-to books. We've also hosted a few book art sessions using the materials. In October, students made book pumpkins utilizing the xacto knives and craft mats. In November, students made book turkeys utilizing the glue guns and bone folders. In December we made snowflakes using recycled books and the tools provided with this project. I look forward to hosting more project sessions and allowing my students' creativity and desire to relax a bit find a space here in the library media center. Thank you so much for donating and supporting projects like these!”

  • Shakespeare Doesn't Have to be Tragic!

    Funded Sep 30, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity in acquiring these books for my students. Together we explored the comedy genius that is Much Ado About Nothing, and they appreciated reading something that had a happy ending.

Literacy is at the heart of what I do, and I am a big believer in sharing a variety of stories with my students. Whether it was written in the 16th century or last week, the ability to read critically for different purposes is timeless and necessary. Thank you again for contributing to this important life skill.”
