Putting Science Projects Together With Color
Funded Oct 13, 2015My students were able to print both charts and pictures for their science fair boards. It was so easy. Teachers and students emailed me their pictures and I simply printed them. I separated them by teacher and sent them to classes for distribution.
My students were given help at school, at home, and from paraprofessionals (paraprofessionals rotated time in our computer lab) to learn how to use Microsoft Word for graphing. They were given instruction in input technology. We shared jump drives and that worked, but we did have some problems. Our biggest problem was getting students to saved incomplete work, and then getting them on the same computer to finish their assignments. Next year we will try to get each student their own jump drive (USB), because we don't have one-to-one technology at this time.
The simple use of this color printer was good motivation for my kids. They didn't expect it. I told them about the color printer, but they didn't really think about it until they saw their own work "in color."
I was afraid I wouldn't have enough ink, so our yearbook contributed more ink to this project. I must say I have enjoyed watching the students learn this part of the Microsoft program, because I didn't know just what all they would produce. I guess we should never underestimate the imagination of a child.
Next year, I look forward to our science fair being even better.
Thank you for the opportunity to help my students enjoy learning...”

Provide the Conditions for Motivation
Funded Dec 28, 2014We have really enjoyed using our magazines for the last month. I asked several students from the 4th and 5th grade what they thought about the magazine. Here are some of the responses that I received: Chase from 4th grade says, " These are really cool!" When asked what he liked most, he replied, "I like that there are several stories in one magazine to look at and read." Another student, Gabby from 4th grade says, " I love these! They have good articles in them." Shakira from 4th grade says, " You get to learn about a bunch of different things." Our 5th graders really seemed to enjoy these magazines as well. Jalen from 5th grade says," I like how you can also look at the articles and do activities online." Jordan from 5th grade says, "I like to read about different things. This magazine lets me read about several things at once."
We received several magazines to look at. We used the magazine for a month. We had plenty of articles to choose from. The teacher resources are wonderful! They help us really clue in on what we need our students to get out of the stories. I love the supporting worksheets. These were very helpful. We also were able to pull articles and activities online. The students love to get on Chrome Books and iPads. The website allow us to mix in some variety for our students.
This project allowed us to present a variety of reading material for our students. Who doesn't love to read about different things. The magazines brought excitement to reading. The articles are interesting and not very long. The online version is wonderful! We love the array of articles/issues from which we can choose. The activities are age appropriate and fun. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to get to use both magazine and digital version of Time for Kids!!”
