Wooden food? LEGOs? Pete the Cat?! Yes, a random collection of items but they were carefully selected based on the superstars' interests and our goals for this year (and beyond). Thank you for reading and considering this project!
Our program's general goal this year is to build deeper connections with our superstars to better support and guide their social emotional development as they get ready for the next stage in their academic career, and our classroom goal is to continue to engage and support them with 21st century learning and meaningful hands-on experiences. This project is just one step to support their needs, interests, and development.
Collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking are the four components of 21st century learning, and they guided the item selection process. Items like the LEGO STEAM Park and the Dreambuilder sets will help develop and nurture their ever-growing interests in engineering and physics with different materials, and allow us to dive deeper into science-related conversations and thinking. The ice cream, tacos, and other food will ground their socio-dramatic play in culturally relevant ways while support healthy social interactions and development. They'll also learn math concepts and allow us reinforce our math/number talks in more organic, meaningful, child-guided settings. The beloved Pete the Cat is our unofficial superstar mascot as not a day goes by without a Pete the Cat book, song, or some sort of representation of him. He will join our stuffed Mike Wazowski in our reading nook to provide comfy support for those who need space or those who would like to just curl up and read a good book or use the iPad for digital enrichment with a soft, familiar friend.
Thank you so much for considering a donation to this project! You rock!
