Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for funding my Donor's Choose! My students in the Career and Technical Education department Digital Media class are excited to use professional quality portfolios during this year's National Portfolio Review Day. My students have all been given their own professional style portfolio and as we complete each project we use the glossy photo paper and ink to print out their Digital Media projects and place them into the new portfolios. The students are excited at the level of quality they are able to view their designs in print. Throughout the school year this year, each student will continue to add and grow their portfolio as physical documentation of their progress and artworks.
When the supplies arrived, students didn't know how to take in what was happening. I passed out a portfolio to each student and asked them how they would envision using it in the real world. Some of their responses were of course silly, that's something that always makes me smile as a teacher, but when I announced that they were going to keep this as a place to store and document their hard work in class they all lit up and started talking about the specific projects they wanted to use and showcase in their portfolio. The supplies arrived in the late spring, leaving little time for us as a class to organize our portfolios. Recognizing that students are more on task at the beginning of the school year and not during the last few weeks, I collected their portfolios and had them create a digital folder to begin placing their print ready files into. After students shared the files with me, I slowly began printing their designs over the summer so they could be ready for the new school year.
Students remembered the portfolios and immediately brought them up when school returned this September. The first project I led the class through this year was to use Adobe Illustrator to create the logo for their portfolio cover using only their name. My students had immediate buy-in with this project since they knew they wanted the cover of their portfolio to be visually stunning. This week, students began placing their cover designs and other artworks in/on their portfolios so they can be ready for our Portfolio Review Day coming up next week. Students will bring their portfolios full of designs with them for review, and they have expressed how excited they are to have all their work in one professional style book.
Once again, thank you for your support. This donation has directly impacted my students who now "feel like real artists".”
With gratitude,
Ms. Stich
