  • Backpacking for Safety!!

    Funded May 7, 2020

The resources that you provided are used daily. The backpacks provide an effective way to make sure that all safety protocols are being followed, first aid needs are available in the event of an accident, and act as a universal symbol for safety that all students recognize.

Each teacher carries a bag with them at all times. Within the bags are student rosters, contact information, first aid supplies, flashlights and emergency procedures. We were able to outfit each teacher, auxuillary staff, and special program personel with a backpack.

Students kow that their backpacks are recsources for safety, and assist with making sure they are always ready and available for use. During evacuaion, weather, and lockdown drills, teachers use these bags and refill them as needed.

We are sincerely appreciative to our donors for makiong this project possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

  • Miniature Items for Major Impact: Therapeutic Sandtray Supplies

    Funded Jul 25, 2017

Thank you for your generosity in donating to our project, "Miniature Items for Major Impact". The sandtray figurines were placed in our elementary school counseling office along with our new sandtray, and are made available to any student receiving counseling services. And as our school district places high priority on the social-emotional education and well-being of our students, our sandtray and miniatures get used a lot!

Children are always excited to discover the sandtray: we hear a lot of, "Cool! This is awesome!" Many of our staff members have even visited the counseling room to experience the sandtray and all of its figures!

Our new tools have enabled our children to communicate more effectively in the counseling room when addressing difficult areas for which they do not possess adequate vocabulary. It has been amazing to see how a box of sand and miniatures can facilitate communication so effectively. No one likes to see hurting children, but it is nice to know that we possess tools that can help break through and provide comfort to children who feel that their issues are just too big to talk about.

We will continue using the sandtray and sandtray miniatures in encouraging children's communication through play therapies. They are invaluable tools for all of us, and we are so thankful that your generosity placed them here with us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

Young children cannot adequately verbalize their issues. In order to resolve issues in counseling, they must communicate through stories, movement, and sensory play. My elementary counseling office strives to provide appropriate interventions for students to help them to be their best at school.
