Mathlete Madness!
Funded May 13, 2019We have used our math manipulatives so many times this year already! At the beginning of the school year we learned place value. This is such a fundamental skill in 1st grade. The magnetic 10's and 1's really made their learning hands on. When they first saw how they could move the magnets on their own magnetic boards they were much more interested than counting them on paper.
I am hoping to add more math manipulatives in my classroom because of how much engagement has increased. Math is towards the end of our day and it has made that time a lot more meaningful for my students.”

Funded Oct 14, 2018Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to surround myself by fellow driven teachers. This conference ignited the fire I needed to start a new school year, it helped me network, and most importantly...it taught me how to better serve my students.
Some highlights that I experienced at "Get Your Teach On" were plentiful. Specifically, I enjoyed the session that Deeanna Jump discussed how to conference with your students during writing time and how to track it. Tracking data is something that can really show me what the students are amazing at and what they are struggling with. I use data in many other subjects but not writing. Another high point was during the keynote one morning when 2 students described the impact their teachers made on them. These speakers spoke to my "WHY" to teaching. It was so powerful to hear from students and their perspective.
All in all, G.Y.T.O. is now a mindset. I cannot wait to bring that magic back to the classroom. I plan on joining the movement of "Rock Your School" and implementing many resources given to me from the speakers at the conference. But mostly I will always remember that in order to get through students, you have to have a relationship with your students.”

Exploring Cooperative Play
Funded Jul 26, 2018My students now have multiple outlets to create and collaborate thanks to you. My students use these resources during morning work time, indoor recess, and when learned about working together at the beginning of the year. My students are so excited when they hear we have indoor recess now! As an educator, student collaborative interactions can be a struggle. It takes a lot of modeling in order for students to understand how to collaborate. I have noticed that when my students have to work together in an academic setting, they are more willing and able to because they have practiced with these resources.
Each and every time we pull out the TinkerToys, Magnet Tiles, and Spinographs, my students are building larger and more complex masterpieces. They are becoming more innovative! Cooperative play is the most amazing thing to watch. Thank you for funding this project. I will continue to use these resources to implement better cooperative play in my classroom.”

Listen and Zoom into Learning!
Funded Aug 2, 2017I am so thankful for your support for the needs of my students. Without your help, my students would not be able to have headphones and focus on reading and math skills. Without your help, my students would not be able to use the document camera to share and discuss projects they work hard on.
I have two students who have become experts with my document camera. They set it up in the morning, and make sure it is focused and bright enough for our students to see. They love that they can share their work so easily with their classmates. One child said, "Look Mrs. Hatcher, its like my paper was blown up so huge so everyone can see!".
Our class set of headphones have been such a joy to use. Everyone has taken ownership of their pair. We have numbered each pair of headphones that matches their number in class. They are soft around their ears and love the blue color...it is our school mascot color! Every teacher and student that comes into our classroom compliments them and asks us where to find them. They are also flexible! They can bend in different shapes based on the shape of their head and even stretch the headphones horizontally to share them with a friend. This feature is great because students may have to work on the same iPad together.”
