Loud and Clear e-Learning
Funded Aug 7, 2020Thank you so much for your donation that allowed me to purchase headphones for every student in our first grade class! We have been learning virtually from our homes since March of this year. Understandably, there are often noises in the background -- siblings attending other classes, parents working, etc. -- that can be distracting to everyone. These headphones have allowed every student to focus on learning without those distractions! Students use them when we are in class on video calls as well as outside of class when using their learning apps and digital books.
One really great thing about these headphones is that they are the same style as what we previously used when we were in the school building. So students are comfortable with how to plug them in and use the volume controls. This gives students independence and ownership of their learning!
We are looking forward to returning to our school building once it is safe to do so. But we know that we will need to take precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone. Because each student has their own dedicated pair of headphones, we will be able to use them for technology activities without worry of spreading germs!
This has been such a strange year, and we've definitely had our ups and downs. Knowing that kind and generous people like you are out there supporting us means more than you may ever know. You made a difference in the lives of my students and me.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Curtis

Funded Dec 28, 2018Thank you so much for the headphones that you purchased for my Kindergarten class. We use them every day!
We have a class set of iPads, and there are several activities that students can do on the tablets. First, students use a program called iReady, which is an interactive, fun program that we use for reading instruction. The students progress at their own pace, so they get extra practice where they need it and then are able to move on to more and more challenging lessons. As the teacher, I can see where each student is excelling or struggling, so I can also provide customized instruction. Before we got the new headphones, only a few students at a time could be on iReady. Now we can do this as a class, which means that students are more focused. Their scores have improved, and they enjoy the lessons more!
We also have several other applications that students can use on the iPads. There are digital books that students can read, or for those who need a little more support, they can listen to the books being read aloud via their headphones! There are also math and reading games. These are perfect for helping students practice their skills in a fun way. And it's great for when we're working in small groups -- some students can be on iPads while others are working with me. These activities are also perfect for when a student finishes other work early and needs something engaging and educational to do.
Before we received your generous donation of headphones, only a few students at a time could use all of these great resources. We struggled with allocating the few headphone sets that we had. Now students are excited to have their own set. They take pride in taking care of them. So the headphones are not only a great academic tool, they are also helping students practice responsibility and learn to use technology.
We are so thankful for your support. It means a lot to know there are generous people like you out there who genuinely care about ALL students! Please know that your gift made an impact on 23 young people and one very grateful teacher!”
