My focus is teaching students the skills, and giving them the tools needed to maintain self-control and consider how behaviors impact those around them. Not only is this important in a school setting, but it is a vital learning tool that will help children grow into positive, contributing members of society. Teaching self-control is one thing, but having useful materials that correlate with this learning is a whole different ball game! In first grade, students are learning about themselves and how to actually learn! Thankfully, research has proven how beneficial flexible seating is. Students get to have options, and figure out what helps them focus the most. I have personally encountered a multitude of adults that stress that if there was more understanding to their fidgety tendencies, they would have excelled, gotten in less trouble, or felt more confident. I want to enable students to work through confusing emotions, and self-regulate with learning materials, flexible seating, and stress-relieving manipulatives. If students are given the opportunity to try out various places to sit, they are building that self-control and allowing those around them to do the same. Our education world has shifted drastically, and it is so important to meet individual students where they are - there is no ‘one size fits all’ in a classroom. I believe that these materials will help me proactively teach students the skills needed to be successful learners in school, and future positive, contributing members of our society. I hope you will consider donating to my first DonorsChoose.org project.
