Schools have changed a lot in the presentation and structure over the last 5-10 years. Keeping student's attention and engaged in the discussion as well as the activities is a constant struggle. This generation of students have information at the touch of their fingers, are in constant communication through technology, and cannot sit still for more than 3-5 minutes. I would like to provide an environment where students take their seating seriously. Making a classroom feel like home and a place to study and learn is important for me. Being able to present different seating styles, while still leave some traditional seating within the classroom, enables students to have a choice. I am also hopeful that discipline issues will decrease because students will be more relaxed and motivated in a setting that honors their choice. Stand up desks, bean bags, wobbly chairs, and bands will allow for students to learn while still moving while not distracting others around them. A stand-up desk for myself will allow me to be a guide on the side and move between conversations easier than sitting at a desk underneath the document camera. I want students to enter the room and dive into inquiry, ask questions, and participate in enriched conversations comfortably.
