I teach a group of wonderful artist-scholars at a high school for the arts in California. These brilliant teenagers have shown dedication and passion for the arts - whether painting, singing, acting, dancing, writing, filming, cooking, sculpting, or most anything else - and my goal is to help them find the same inspiration in science. The students are in classes from 8-5 every day, with rehearsals and practices running late into the evening, and many of these students commute up to two hours each way to get to school - that's how committed they are to the academic rigor, artistic mentorship, and supportive community they find at this school. Knowing how much they give to be a part of this school community makes me that much more determined to make their education as interesting, meaningful, rigorous, and ultimately rewarding as possible.
