Making Our Classroom More Engaging and Alive for All Students
Funded Feb 6, 2025Thanks so much for your kindness and generosity.
Too often public schools lack the highest quality materials, making teachers and students work harder for the same impact. Because of you, PS199’s students will have more of the top quality things they love, and my job will be even more joyful.
You really make a difference.”

Learning About Plant Life Up Close and Hands On
Funded Oct 16, 2024Words cannot express how wonderful the classroom looks with the addition of the beautiful exploration station you made possible. Kids and adults alike walk in and notice it right away. The clear drawers keep all of the interesting materials well organized and accessible, while also keeping them safe and not blocking the sunlight from the window.
So far our collection includes MANY types of seeds and seed pods. These will be so useful as we move into studying how seeds are able to travel away from the parent plants. The exploration station also has bird feathers and nests, germinating acorns, and so much more! We are working on making little labels and information tags to put into each drawer.
Once again, your generosity is so appreciated. Thank you from me and all 350 of my students.”

Love Our Science Library
Funded Nov 27, 2023Until we received these bins our classroom library was, at best, uninviting. It looked sloppy and disorganized. Now -- what a difference! You can see the transformation! Kids are drawn to the books and also do a much ore careful job neatly putting them back where they belong.
With your help we have not only improved the appearance of our little library, we have also encouraged more interaction with books, and created an environment where kids are better able to do their best. In a learning space, those are very important goals.
So, thanks again for your enduring support as I work to make our Science and Technology classes the best they can be.”

Living Things, Engaged Students
Funded Oct 30, 2023Thanks again for so generously donating to this project.
Having more live plants in the classroom makes it bright and interesting. All of the students want turns to tend to our new plants by transplanting, watering, moving to a more ideal spot, or measuring leaves and recording data.
As you can see, one highlight of this addition to our classroom is the white plastic pots that the students could decorate with sharpie markers and use to transplant our new ferns. I am looking forward to continuing with the rest of our new plants as soon as we have the right size pots.
As always, your thoughtfulness makes all of the difference to this classroom.”

Funded Jun 13, 2023Thank you SO MUCH for your generosity!
It is a million times easier to make beautiful, sturdy books for and by the students with heavy paper and a super stapler. With the trays it is possible to pass out, sort, and collect all of the small items we use for 12 full science classes across 3 grades. Soon the 3rd graders may benefit as well since LEGO robotics certainly involves keeping small pieces in check.
A well-organized classroom with accessible materials is essential for learning.
Thanks again,”

Funded Feb 2, 2023I cannot overstate the impact of having mice and headphones for 3rd graders using chromebooks. Not everyone chooses to use a mouse, but for those who do it is a lifesaver. Headphones allow students to work on programs with audio components without distracting their neighbors or creating a cacophony in the classroom.
I thought the stickers would be a special incentive for the youngest children, but it turns out all of the science and technology students are eager to earn stickers. They brighten up assessment papers and make kids feel special.
We deeply appreciate your kindness and generosity.”

Colorful Curriculum for Learning
Funded Dec 10, 2022Engaging materials and colorful images make all of the difference to little learners. Thanks to you the K-2 scientists at PS199 (and 3rd grade tech kids) have just that. Thank you!
You can see in the photos that I spend plenty at Teachers Pay Teachers to ensure that I can spend my time preparing and leading the best possible lessons, and letting other experts create the clip art, quizzes, etc. that bring it all to life. Well, I do quite a bit of creating myself, but it always helps to see what others have done.
Finally, I print vibrant images and cute graphics every day. With the printer I bought myself and the ink you contributed I have been able to not only create materials, but also to make quick copies in class when a child needs a spare.
Thank you!”

Funded Sep 20, 2022Kindergarteners are working to help the children of Mariposa Grove bring Monarch caterpillars and butterflies back to their community. They have been researching, observing, comparing, and experimenting to learn what they can do. One major discovery has been that Monarch caterpillars only eat the leaves of milkweed plants! Now we are trying to germinate our own milkweed seeds. According to the package directions the seeds must be refrigerated for 30 days before planting. Without your generous support this project would not have been possible at all.
Thank you so very much.”

Let's Heat It Up and Computer Tools
Funded Sep 20, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom. Given the option, every child prefers to use a computer mouse because they make the use of classroom technology so much easier. They are so in demand that I have created another project to get a whole class set!
The microwave will allow us to do experiments regarding the effects of different kinds of water (tap, bottled, microwaved, etc.) on plant growth. In the future it will be put to used when we study states of matter, temperature, and weather!
All of your support continues to make PS199's Science and Technology classes even better.”

A Little Bit of Everything!
Funded Oct 2, 2022I know this project was a mish mash of supplies, but without them life in Science class would not be so good.
For example: the wireless keyboard and mouse mean that I can type students' dictations, start and pause videos, move through a lesson on Google Slides, etc. from anywhere in the room -- even at a table where children are working.
The coil binding machine and coils have already been put to good use making a few simple books. Soon they will take on a bigger challenge: making portfolios of each student's work in the first unit of study. The bins hold just enough colored pencils that each table can have its own supply. Everything you help us get is valuable in Science Class.
Thank you so much for your contribution!”

Ms. Silver
